Blue Ray is one of the competing formats for the high definition DVD. The other being HD-DVD. Do you remember the Sony Betamax vs. VHS battle when VCRs hit the market? Same deal, different decade.

You know a CD holds about 800 Megs of information and plays our MUSIC and what not...(10 megs only holds about ONE MINUTE of music on a CD)

You also know a DVD holds about 9,000 Megs and plays our MOVIES, right?...(1000 megs is equal to ONE "gig")

Well the BLUE RAY (Blu-ray) disc holds 50,000 Megs and plays HIGH DEFINITION MOVIES...(50,000 "megs" can be called 50 "gigs")

DVD movies take up more room than songs on a CD...And HI-DEF movies take up even MORE space than DVD movies...Remarkably all of these discs are the same size...High Definition is 5 TIMES CLEARER than DVD VIDEO, so it MUST have MORE information tightly packed onto its little BLU-RAY discs...

So remember: 800, 9,000 and 50,000 Megs ("megs" are like "gallons" to computer geeks)...Obviously, 9,000 (DVD) is bigger than 800 (CD)...And further more, 50,000 (Blu-ray) is bigger than 9,000 (DVD), right? All of these discs are pretty much the SAME except for the fact that they contain DIFFERENT "volumes" of information...CD's, DVD's and Blu-ray...Hooray!
