The answer is definitely yes, you can get them more than once, but those occasions are the exception.
Shingles is a viral infection of the nerve roots and is triggered by significant fatigue, stress, injuries and other reasons, and is actually just a reactivation of the chickenpox virus that lies dormant in people once they have recovered from chickenpox during their youth.
For adults that have not had chickenpox or had a very mild case (like i did), coming in contact with the chickenpox virus will most likely not trigger chickenpox, but rather shingles (like i got).
Whether you had chickenpox as a child or chickenpox of shingles as an adult, the virus will always be in your system, but for the majority of people will just lie dormant after your recovery.

I had Shingles for the first time a few weeks ago. I am normally in good health and haven't had any other health challenges before, so it came as a surprise.
Shingles is probably the most painful thing I have ever encountered. I went to the doctor, and he gave me some prescription drugs to take that was suposed to help, but didn't.
My wife found the Fast Shingles Cure ebook online and bought it for me, I am very lucky to have such a wonderful woman in my life. We followed the book, did what it said, and it delivered what it promised. Finally my Shingles rash is over... I feel truly blessed and thankful.

Yep. it is led to through a similar virus as causes chickenpox. the version is, shingles is a effect of a compromised immune device. when you're taking immunosuppressants or have a ailment like HIV, it surely is plausible to get shingles better than once. i understand; i have had it two times.

I am having after effects of shingles and i hope never to get them again. I have been reading a lot about them and it appears that unless you have a mild case of them your chance of getting them again is only 20%. I am wondering just how long it takes to get over them. I read that it can take months or even years! I have suffered with a bad case of them on my trunk. If you have them try to get lots of rest.

Can you get shingles more than once? The jury's still out on that one, but most experts say no. "It seems that almost without exception, people get it either not at all or once in their life," Jorizzo says. "If they keep getting it again and again in the same area, it's likely to be herpes simplex -- the fever blister virus, not varicella-zoster."

Yes you can. A couple of weeks ago, there was an announcement over the news agencies that a government panel has recommended that all people over the age of 60 be vaccinated with the new FDA approved vaccine called Zostavax. http://www.webmd.com/content/article/122/114846
