Why do people think it is o.k. to say, "Did you cut your hair?
I liked it better before." Am I the only one who thinks that is insulting?

Next time someone says that to you, you could always say, "Did you gain weight? I liked you better before". See how they like it.

It is absolutely RUDE and intentional! If u cut yo hair and sum 1 tellz u dat u shudn't hav coz it doesn't really suit u, what the crap are u supposed 2 do with it @ dat stage????!!! How do they think u feel after dat? good? Same goes 4 comments like "What happened 2 yo hair?" I hear evrybody iz on sum "honesty" tip but we're are talkin here about an opinion that wasn't asked 4. Bottom line iz: If ya can't say anything nice, then shut ya pie hole!"

Some people just like to make conversation, and don't really take the time to think about what they say.

I think some of the other answerers are missing the point, though. If you ASK someone how they think your new haircut looks, you should be prepared to hear a negative response. But, it IS rude to just say that someone's haircut looks bad without the opinion being asked for.

the truth hurts ,doesn'it? they are just expressing their opinion and being sincere mostof the time they are not doing it to offend you but just being sincere in what they think . I would rather have someone telling me the truth than someone saying my hair cut looks nice but behind my back they think it is a mess. You need to learn to accept criticism, you should not get hurt by it. You can look at yourself and say well maybe they are right I looked better before ,I will regrow my hair the way it was, or you can just say who cares what they think I love my hair and I will keep it this way. It is about you and yourself confidence do not get offended, many times in life people won't agree with you ,or won't like what you say, or what you wear, do not stress over it ,just accept criticisism and move on.

It's not insulting, it's an opinion. It's only insulting if you yourself are unsure of your hair.

If you did cut your hair and you absolutely LOVE it no one elses opinions will matter.

Now if you had said rude, then yes, it's rude to flat out say something like that but I wouldn't be insulted if I liked my hair.

That is not okay to say. It's flat out insulting. It is never appropriate to comment negatively about someone's appearance. I think it's also insulting when someone says "I like your hair so much BETTER now." Did I look like I got caught under the lawnmower before?

Yes it is insulting. okay to ask if you cut your hair, but better to say it's looks nice even if you don't think so

It might be insulting, but think about this. Next time you get your haircut and they say. "Hey, that looks great," Aren't you more apt to believe them? If they said nice things all the time what confidence do you have in their words? If they are honest, when they say nice things it means more, does it not?
Just something to chew over.

People say that because they are socially inept. It's ridiculous to tell someone that after they get their hair cut unless you want to insult them. What can they do about it at that point? How about as the hair gets longer, saying "Your hair is getting longer; I like that look on you".

I think its insulting, but maybe the person didn't mean it like that. Maybe she just noticed that it looked different, but didn't know what to say and she was just having a bad day. If it hurt your feelings, just tell her you got your feelings hurt, and forgive her.

If you want to, you could respond by saying, "Well, then, the next time I think about getting my hair cut, I'll make sure to clear it with YOU first to make sure YOU approve of my decision."

They should get the point there. If they don't, there is probably not much hope for them.
