You could met him at a safe place, one that if you felt uncomfortable you could leave. I think it would be a great thing for you to meet your dad if you are interested in knowing what he is like and perhaps getting his perspective of why he left. Certainly there would probably be lots of tears shed but who knows you may actually learn a lot about him, you, any other relations that you have been denied because of him leaving. 26 years is a long time to go through live wondering about ones father and I hope that if you do meet up with him that a lot of the questions you most certainly must have had throughout your life as well as now are answered. Best of luck.

Never let others stop you from what you want to do. My family doesn't quite like my father for all the "things" he did to me when I was under 10. I don't remember these things but my family has told me things. I love my father very much. Though I do question him about that, I do respect him because he as been honest with me. We now live almost 1000 miles apart and I wish I knew him better. I am 17 and I miss my father very much.

I would if I was in your position, if only so that I never have that "what if" in the back of my head. The out come could be may things, but one of those out comes could be that you have another person in your life where there has been a void before and while this may not work out the way you might want it to it's better to put your self out there.

sure...it will probably be awkward, but if you had a child who you never got to see grown up, once you got older wouldnt you be curious as to what she looked like or what kind of person she became?
everyone makes mistakes in their youth....some worse than others, but people grow up and start to see the world in a different light.

Yes, you should. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. Don't think about the past, just meet him, so you can see again the man that brought you here
