I am not sure which if any airlines are sensitive to people of size flying. I do know that some airlines take you to the plane and in front of all see if you can fit in seat with belt buckled. Now I find that rude and inconsiderate of anyones privacy. Dear, don't you know by now we live in a society of people who are more abusive and discriminating to us of size than any other minority? I don't think it is fair for an air traveler to pay for two seats or fly 1st. class, it's costly. I think there should be some allowances for people of size...there are a lot more out there than they think. I recently needed to go to hospital for an emergency and even our DUMB multi-million dollar hospital were unable to accommodate me in emergency. My point is we people of size are this way but for myself I can do nothing about it, it is a disease I have that causes excessive edema. But I would love to still go where my THINNER friends go without nasty words or stares, right?

For your own comfort and for the comfort of others, you might want to look into a first class seat. They are larger and it's usually cheaper than purchasing two seats in the coach cabin of the aircraft.

Personally, I don't know what 300lbs looks like, so I don't know if maybe you'd be just fine in one coach class seat, kind of depends on how you carry your weight and your height.

You can always purchase one seat and gamble, hoping that the seat next to you will be open. When you get the gate, you can ask if the seat is open next to you, or if you can get a seat towards the back of the aircraft that will have an open seat next to you (usually the back has more openings).

You can also gamble, purchase a coach seat and then upgrade at the airport if it's available, however this doesn't always work... so I don't suggest this.

If you require a seat belt extention, then you can ask the flight attendent when your boarding and she will get it for you. This is very, very common. Don't worry about this.

If you do need a seat belt extention, you cannot sit in the exit row per FAA regulations.

From what I hear daily from passengers is that Northwest tends to be least sensitive on any issue.... but, it all depends on the individual person that is representative of that airline and the tools that the airline offers them to work with.

I would have to agree that first class has larger seats and would probably be cheaper than buying 2 seats together. There was a lawsuit in progress of a woman sueing an airline for making her purchase 2 seats, but I don't know what happened or if it's been resolved.
And the upside to first class is the chioce of movie and meals.........don't be embarrassed..you have rights too !!!!
Have a Great Trip !!!!

I had a family member with the same issue. She always chose to travel first class. The seats are typically larger and there is more room. You can call the airlines or browse the websites for the policies, but for the sake of your comfort, I would recommend traveling in first class.

When you check in, the airline rep would consult another member of staff to assess whether you will need to purchase an extra seat.
Your best bet would be to purchase another seat just in case. You can check with airline staff over the phone if this is necessary, and ask if you can be seated on exit row which is where the door is so you don't have to be sandwiched between the row of seats. These seats are often held back for special needs, and you will need to inform the airline if you require them

Which airline are you with? http://www.seatguru.com has all the seat plans including measurements for all major international and domestic flights. Perhaps you can use this to determine your situation.

Most airlines now have this rule....

If you can not physically fit into the seat you purchased, you must purchase another seat. If the flight is not sold out they will refund the ticket for the extra seat.

However, if you can fit in the first class seat, it might be worth the cost to not have to deal with the stress of wondering if you'll get a refund on the 2nd seat.

BUY TWO SEATS!! and when you get on the plane ask for a seat belt extension so they don't make a big deal out of you.

simple....pay for two adjoining seats. that way you will have plenty of room, and be less likely to encroach on the already limited space on a plane.
