Nerves alert you to the deterioration of the tooth. So, when your toothaches, time to call the dentist. Actually, it may be a little late. It's better to go in for regular visits that find a cavity before it turns into a root canal.

Without nerves in your teeth, it would be possible to develop an infection that could go untreated long enough to eat through your sinus cavities and get into your brain and kill you.

That way you can feel when something is wrong. If you have had a root canal that tooth is dead, but you can still get a cavity in it. How ever you will not feel it.
