Hi there...consider looking for your kittens on either Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com or NYC Craigslist : http://newyork.craigslist.org/pet/ People post online every minute so there many cats up for adoption for free.

Not in NYC, unfortunately, but if anybody in or near Sandstone, MN wants one, I've got 7 that are 8 weeks old (did not get mama cat to the vet in time -- we DO normally spay/neuter. She had a litter of 8 but we are keeping one). Look for my ad under "give away" in the Evergreen this weekend for my phone #.

No kitten can be "free". The expenses for one kitten in the first year can cost $200, so it's $400 for two. You must met their medical needs for shots, worming and eventual neutering.
Shelter adopt kittens who have had many of these medical issues addressed and the shelter fees are much less than you would have to pay on the open vet market. So though the kittens would not be "free" they would be a bargain from the shelter.

Try Bide-a-Wee or the SPCA, though there may be "adoption fees" to cover their vaccines.

The last time i was in N.Y.C they were in every alley.Get a fishing net and hit a few alleys in Harlem.
P.S Be careful what you catch.I don't know if they were cats or rats.
