I was a little worried myself, but my whole family got the flu shot this year. My children--ages 2 and 6. My 6 year old was sick for 3 months straight last year between colds and the flu. I really didn't want to risk them getting the flu this year. It is recommended that children ages 6 months-5 years get the shot. That's my pediatrician talking. They got the shot like 2 weeks ago, a little sore afterwards, but they handled it just fine. I'm a nurse also, get the shot every year myself, but we see tons of little ones in the hospital with the flu every year, one died last year. It's just like with the immunizations, there are those rare cases where children have bad reactions, but I have also seen whooping cough(something you can be immunized against) It is the scariest thing. I would rather take the risk. I haven't taken that risk in the past with the flu shot, but I finally did this year. I'm happy I did.

Being of mother of four and rather skeptical, I never allowed for more immunizations than I felt necessary, such as measles. However, when I informed the doctor I did not want the flu shot for my youngest two (4 and 1) she explained it in such a way that I felt made it worth while.
First and foremost, she only recommends it to children under the age of two, adults over the age of 60, and individuals suffering asthma or similar breathing diseases. Second, she only recommends it to these individuals because they are more likely to not only catch the flu, but die from it. She backed this up with several statistics and then left me to choose on my own.
Both my 4 year old and husband suffer asthma, and since I don't want to risk their lives, I decided it was better to keep an eye on my little ones a few days after the shot than lose them too soon from catching the flu.

my daughter is 2 and she will be getting her 2nd flu shot on monday. I feel safe about her getting it. I would rather her get the shot and lower the risk of her getting the flu and getting put in the hospital or something. She has not had the flu once in her 2 yrs yet. I cant say that its b/c of the shot or not but I wouldnt feel safe if she wasnt getting the shot. You should talk to your child's dr about how safe the shot is and about your concerns about it.

the flu shot builds up your immunity to the flu, it is safe it makes you have a fever for a couple of days but all in all it's worth it. the flu nasal spray however which contains the live virus i would not get for my child and it's recommended you do not for anyone under 5 yrs old. you should also find out if he's allergic to eggs.

It depends on the age of the child. 4y.o. and older, yes, get the vaccine. CDC reports breakouts of flu every year, both nationally and globally. Based on reports and trends, the CDC recommends what strain of flu should be used in the vaccine. CDC recommends all US citizens be vaccinated upon there communicable age (the age that they are exposed to the general public, usually around school age) and receive a vaccine every year. If you contract influenza, I mean the real FLU, not a virus that give you flu "like" symptoms, you can end up in the hospital and younger and older patients can die of complications of influenza. Go to CDC.gov for more information.

well i can tell u im 15 and i have NEVER had the flu shot..i asked my mom why and she said there are diseases that come with it and if you get the flu its better to take medicine and ride the flu out on your own. It would be much to get it out of your system rather than a shot to just take it away and it could still be in ur system with the shot...thats just my opinon ~!bekah~!
