A sin is any act against the Word and Will of God.

edit note... if you are not of The True Christian Faith you need not be concerned with sin... the concept dose not apply to you... it applies to those of God... it is a misconception that sin will keep someone from Heaven... What will keep most out of Heaven is rejecting God( not coming to Him in The Way he proscribes)

I accept email questions concerning The True Christian Faith. 1 honest question receives 1 honest answer to the best of my ability.

SIN is the common Hebrew term translated “sin” is chat·ta´th´; in Greek the usual word is ha·mar·ti´a. In both languages the verb forms (Heb., cha·ta´´; Gr., ha·mar·ta´no) mean “miss,” in the sense of missing or not reaching a goal, way, mark, or right point.

Paul ties in God’s glory with the matter of human sin in saying that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Ro 3:23; compare Ro 1:21-23; Ho 4:7.)
God himself sets the “mark” that his intelligent creatures are to reach. Missing that mark is sin, which is also unrighteousness, or lawlessness. (Rom. 3:23; 1 John 5:17; 3:4) Sin is anything not in harmony with God’s personality, standards, ways, and will, all of which are holy. It may involve wrong conduct, failure to do what should be done, ungodly speech, unclean thoughts, or desires or motives that are selfish. The Bible differentiates between inherited sin and willful sin, between an act of sin over which a person is repentant and the practice of sin.

The Bible defines sin for us. 1 John 3:4 says "sin is transgression of the law". When we break God's law we sin against Him. Paul wrote "I had not known sin but by the law".

Anything that is against God. There is a wide variety opf sins. In order for Satan to get a person to do wrong he must tempt them to do wrong. Satan knows each persons weaknesses. He will only tempt a person with the things they desire to do. If a peron is weak in one area, for example with sex...then he will try to lead them to commit a sexual sin. All sin starts with a thought. If the person is not walking with God they will allow the thoughts to remain in their thinking, and soon they will act on the sinful thoughts and soon their ife is headed for self destruction. If one has commited to walking with God, they have self discipline and have their thoughts under control. When they have a sinful thought come into their mind they identify that it is not from God and rid it from their mind. This is why God warns us to control our thoughts. Even at times, some Christians fall for the trap of sin, because all people are human and they are not perfect. Sin can sometimes get a person and they fall. God will forgive us and redeem us if we ask with our heart and soul. We must walk carefully through life..Satan has landmines around every corner just trying to catch us. Control your thoughts and you will walk with God. Go to prayer and Bible study when feeling weak. Minister with others in their time of need. Sin can be overcome. Loose the desire for the wrong things and Satan cannot tempt you!!!

To practice sin means our actions or attitude are displeasing to God. The Hebrew word translated as "sin" is chattath, and had the basic meaning of "miss", as in, not hitting the target. Humans were created in God's image, but boy are we missing the mark of perfection now!

Define or give examples? I'll do both.
Sin is what separates us from God.
Acts are: Blasphemy, Resentment, Anger, judgment, envy, greed, gluttony, crimes against others, theft, fornication, adultery, drunkenness, pride, and on and on....
Thankfully God forgives us, and gives us strength to overcome these fleshy desires if we ask him to (and believe he can/will)

Pride is the mother of all sin. (Putting ourselves before others.) Adam and Eve put their own desires ahead of God when they ate the forbidden fruit. It is still the same today. We put our own desires ahead of doing God's will. To learn what God's will is, we must study the Bible.
