I ate out at a greek restaurant on Tuesday night. The food was filling and tasted fine. Then today, on Thursday morning, I awoke around 8:30 am and started throwing up for no reason whatsoever. It would come in waves of three or four and then stop for an hour or so at a time, then happen again. It seems to happen more often whenever I get up somewhat suddenly from lying down.
However, I've also been having diarreha, chills, a queasy stomach, aching in my shoulders and the back of my neck, and slight headaches. I just feel...somewhat blah, you know?
I don't usually get sick, but maybe there is something going around?
Thoughts?
Paul

FOOD POISONING IS RARELY IMMEDIATE!!!
Folks, I needed to say that because I cover foodborne illnesses for a very large health department, and if there's on giant MYTH that people cling to, it's that food poisoning happens in minutes.
Unless we're talking about chemical toxins or scombroid fish poisoning, food poisoning takes a bit of time to set in. Bacterial toxins take a minimum of 4 hours, usually around 10 hours. Salmonella, E. coli etc bacterial infections can take 1 to 3 DAYS to set in.
What you have sounds like norovirus. 36 hours onset, no temperature over 101ºF, predominantly vomiting, but with diarrhea and cramps. That's classic stomach flu (norovirus).
Yes, norovirus can be spread through food if a sick foodhandler contaminates a food item. But usually, it's spread person to person. Do you work closely with a lot of people? have family over recently? Got a kid in day care? Then you're at higher risk of norovirus. And yes, there is a lot of noro in the community (out here anyway) right now.

Paul, that sounds like the flu because I've unfortunately had food poisoning on several occassions and you get sick immediatly if not within a couple hours. I've never heard of days passing before getting sick from food. Hope you feel better!

well, if you had food poisoning from the restaurant that you ate at. then you would have felt the effects on Wednesday. My friends husband got food poisoning from eating shrimp gumbo. the next day, he had a spiking fever 106, he couldn't get out of bed, and he couldn't keep anything down.
you probably just have the flu. maybe you should get it checked out.

If it was food poisoning, trust me, you'd know it. You would think or at least wish you were dying. Food poisoning is almost instantaneous too. You would have most likely felt its effects before the meal was finished or at least that same night. The symptoms you described are classic flu. Hope you feel better!

Your last statement was right, there is something going around. Years ago they called it the grip. It lasts around 36 hr's. If it goes longer see a doctor.
