I personally don't think so, but I'm wondering why people would think it is.

If you're having IVF and preimplantation genetic diagnosis in order to be sure you won't have a child with a severely debilitating or fatal sex-linked genetic disease, then I have no problem with it.

If you've just "always wanted a girl" or want to "balance your family" since you already have one (or a few) of a single sex, then I don't think it is.

Because the little girl you've always dreamed of might not be the little girl you get, you know? What if she hates pink and frills and is happiest catching frogs or playing football? What if the little boy you wanted so badly, instead of being "just like his daddy," paints his fingernails black and writes poetry?

The kid you get is the kid you get, and no amount of trying to choose or control that is going to change the curveballs he or she throws you!

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as the people already had children. You should never pick the gender of the first child. They must also agree to not terminate the pregnancy if the gender they wanted isn't the one they get, none of it is 100% accurate. I know alot of people that have 2 or 3 children of one sex and would really enjoy having one of the opposite sex but would love any child.

Keep in mind that those of us that had to resort to IVF to have a child want a child so badly that we could care less of the sex of the baby. And most clinics do not offer the service of choosing the sex of your baby before the embryos are transfer into the uterus. The couple's best interest is to use the best embryos regardless of the sex.

I think it is very wrong. God will bless you with whatever gender he chooses and to mess with that is wrong. If you are that’s superficial to only want a child due to its gender you don’t deserve the miracle of a baby. And since when is this even possible?

I think it is playing God...which is of course completely wrong, just as abortion is wrong and embryonic stem cell research and cloning are completely wrong.
How arrogant and selfish! To actually want to choose the sex of a person! God will give us what he chooses for us to have.
Science has gone way too far.

Totally wrong. Why pick the gender, why not enjoy not knowing untill later! Geez. I woudl understand if it was a change to remove chance of cancer or other illness, but chose the sex? How shallow.

I don't think so. I think that God made your child the gender he/she is today and that shouldn't be messed with. God knew each and everyone of us before we were even born. He knows even the number of hairs on our heads. God made us and I think the decisions should be left up to Him.

Why would that not be morally OK? It's not like IVF is completely natural either.

I agree, I think it's selfish. People should be happy with whatever they get.
