i think it shows a lack of creativity. when i wanted my tattoo it was because i had designed something that had meaning to me. i couldnt copy someone else, its gonna be on my skin forever! why would i want something i know other people have? its MY skin! and i want my tattoo to be as unique as me.

It's one thing to be inspired by someones tattoo but I wouldn't purposely copy a tattoo line for line knowing someone else has the exact same thing.
Tattoos are personal and I have seen tattoos on other people that I really liked and thought of for myself however I would use that design as inspiration and change it up to suit me. That persons tattoo means something to them. I wouldn't want to take that from them. However, I may end up with something a long the same line but not exact. It would be specific to me and my own ideas and meaning.

Frankly I think copying is okay if you are planning to get the same tattoos as someone you know but if you get one that is of something you saw from some stranger or some magazine then that's just unoriginal and rediculous. If you're going to spend your money on a permenant body art, make sure that it is something you want and be able to say that you designed it. I designed my own tattoo. I have a large black scorpion on my right hand with one claw aim towards the thumb and the other towards my index finger. Super cool, I thought of it when I was watching Animal Planet:D It also has red eyes and Japanese Kanji written in the tail and stinger partXDLove it.

Personally i dont like to copy tattoos at all, i dont like picking them off of a flash either as i know there could be 1000's of people wandering around with the same thing on them, i much prefer to have them designed from scratch for me.
Having a tattoo is a personal thing and they should reflect the person; their feelings, likes etc.
People who copy tattoos just because, for example, a celeb has them is likely to end up regretting it but if they like it they should go for it. each to their own.

I hate it and the person who stole the tattoo should have it removed with a belt sander. Its not fair to the person with the original tattoo, its not fair to the artist that drew it and the time put into it. Most custom tattoos are personal with deep meaning, so putting on just anyone doesn't make sense. Original artwork should remain one of a kind and on the person who created it. Period.
The only exception to that is if they took the art work out of a book at the tattoo shop or printed it off of a stencil gallery that is built for the purpose of 'cut and paste' tattoo images. The I suppose seeing someone else with it would be fine because its readily visible for anyone.
If I were to ever see someone with one my tattoos or one I knew was on someone else first, I would punch them...and I would do it hard

I perfer to have an originality to a tattoo. I must of admit, that whilst on holiday, everyone had henna tattoos, i had to have one myself, but with the 1000's of pages and images i flicked through, it would have to be a very popular image to even get copied or recreated.
People get inspired. not, all choose the same.

I think it's cheap. If if is flash art being tattooed, that is one thing...it is drawn and dosl to go on people unwilling to create their own...but when someone takes another person's custom tattoo, it isn't cool at all. It's not flattering, and there's nothing positive about it.
It is theft and it is terrible. The copied tattoos hardly even look as good, and are devoid of the personal and deep meaning it had to the original owner. It's rude to the artist that spent the tie drawing it, designing it, put the work into aplying it, and the person that has it. Terrible, terrible, terrible..
This happens a LOT, though. It happened to Amina Munster.

It's such a lack of respect.
Only less that 1/3 way through my chestpiece, I got my Robins stolen from some chick off of myspace, Someone showed me someone her after she got them. Same design, same town I went to highschool in...etc. I spent over a year drawing just the birds alone, perfecting them to my liking, making them symbolize as much as I could (as in the rest of my chestpiece), ...and they looked like they just traced mine. It was upsetting that I put all fo my work into MY tattoo, and someone just ahd it. Those Robins were for my late mother in law, whom I love very much...and hers were.... just to 'be cool." Um, f u ck her. That's crap, and they shouldn't do that crap. It's not flattering or nice or sweet at all.. It was blatant and offensive. She denied it. I took all of my pictures off of the internet, and am undergoing at least getting my chestpiece copywrited, now that it is finished.
F uck people that do that. Taking an idea, or whatever is fine, even giving an artist a picture, and letting them make it their own design is fine, as long as it's not someone else's tattoo...even changed up a bit. It still sucks. Inspiration is fine...copying is far from it..
"Seriously, taking someone’s custom tattoo and copying it isn’t a compliment. It’s theft and abuse of something really personal, a kind of emotional rape that’s utterly unacceptable. Not cool at all."
I coulda gone into more detail, but I could have gone ranting.. It just sucks...

I'd honestly sue if someone directly copied a custom tattoo of mine. They're personal to the person and having someone rip off their idea just because it looks "cool" at the time is rediculous. I'm all for copyrighting custom jobs.

People should be original in their artwork and not rip off other peoples art. I designed 7 of my 8 tattoos. Originality is the key it makes the tattoo your own.

Personally I don't think I could ever do that unless I get something that one of my family members has, as kinda like a bonding thing.
If people copy other people's tattoos because they like they, they should at least tweak it a bit so they have something of their own. A straight copy is just rude.

If it's yours that's been copied, just think that you had such a fantastic tattoo, somebody wants the same. But to be honest, however alike they are, bodies are so different, they'll never be exactly the same. Take it as a compliment of your excellent taste in tattoos.
