I currently have 2 and I am thinking about getting a third...

It's hard to make a decision on this. Questions you might ask yourself: How bonded are the first two cats? Do they cuddle up to sleep together or are they pretty much independent of one another?

If the two are bonded the third cat will probably be excluded from their relationship and might feel left out. A third cat could also disrupted the happy pattern of the first two.

Are you thinking of getting a kitten? It would be better to have two so that they could grow up together and have a playmate for their energetic first year. A single kitten would be a trial to the older cats.

Don't worry yourself to death about it. If you see a shelter cat you want - get it. The cats will work it all out among themselves.

I have six cats who have all come in at different times. They are very independent of one another and share the house without any problems.

Even I know this is excessive, but at one time I had seven cats. I hadn't planned on that many, but when my son moved back in with us he brought his kitten. I'd "rescued" two strays and already had four of my own, so I couldn't very well turn the kitten away even though I didn't know about her before the move. My son has since moved and five have died due to old age. The only one left is a 23-yr. old Siamese cat who shows no sign of aging. She still eats and even runs from room to room when she gets excited.

I allowed myself to get that many because I had plenty of room for them to play in and more importantly for each one to be away from the others when he/she needed space. I also had help when it came time to clean the litterboxes. Another consideration was whether I had the money to feed them properly and take them to the vet when they were sick or for routine health care (teeth cleaning, etc.).

One consideration is what age are you considering? If you have two "older" cats and want to bring in a kitten, you may have personality conflicts with the cats. My Siamese would sit in front of a bedroom door or at the end of a hall and not let the kitten come out to eat or anything. Someone was always rescuing her. You also don't want to get to the point that I did where three of the cats died in one year from old age. Believe me, that's rough.

I have three! One is a big 12 year old orange tabby, the other is a grey domestic shorthair, he's 11 and he is the son of my orange tabby and I got a 10 month old calico! The calico gets along great with the orange tabby but I had to separate the calico and the grey one!! They don't like each other at all. The grey one wants to fight her, he doesn't accept her at all! I thought at some point they would all be friends but that's not the case so good luck with yours!!!

I have 2 also but I live in a small Flat so I would not get another until I move to a larger place. I think they would need more room if there were 3 of them.

Only one, as he thinks he's a dog, so it's quite enough. If he liked other cats I would consider it, but because he likes dogs, we will probably get one in the next year, either a Great Dane or a St. Bernard...or mixed, just a big dog because once again, that's what my cat likes (weird, I know!), he just wants to beat up small dogs.

I have 3 - and it is 1 too many for me. You want her? She's sweet!

Anywayz...
You will have to change the litter & feed more, & hope it will get along with the others.

Besides that, depending on your situation, etc. 3 cats is pushing the "cat lady" label.

I have 2. I love them dearly, and they couldn't live without one another, but prior to getting my 2nd one, and asking my friends for advice, everyone wass in favor of another, yet no one thought to remind me that it would be twice the poop, twice the food, twice the meowing, twice the vet expenses... If your 2 are happy together, getting a 3rd could throw everything out of whack... If it's not broke, don't fix it... Good Luck!!!

I have one right now. I almost had another but my hubbie nixed that. Can't blame him though - we have a houseful already with our 2 boys (3 year old, 3 month old), a dog and a cat.

My brother has 2 and my mother-in-law has 4.

I have 2 one black and white TUXEDO kitty whose name is MICKEY MOUSE, he is 10 yrs old and quite the charmer especially when he's wearing his red bow tie collar. My 2nd cat is a 8 year old Main Coon female by the name of PRECIOUS, she is sweet, but moody just like most girls can be. I'd love a Russian Blue, but could not afford one. Cats live happy lives with us, they are my babies...SPOILED!
