I have recently become a Christian. I love to feast on the Word when I'm in church but I just cannot get into the praise and worship. I usually turn up late just to avoid it! The Christian rock group 'Electralyte' will be performing at my church soon. Everyone is so looking forward to seeing them. Does Christian music grow on you as you develop as Christian. (I can already see the responses of the witty non-Christians!)

Hi. Congrats hun on finding Christ in your heart. God Bless you.

Perhaps one's appreciation for music changes as he develops spiritually. And not just for music, for all sort of things that remind you of the presence of the Lord in our everyday life.
And sometimes, yes you might get used to a certain type of music, but I feel that if you feel uncomfortable it may be because you’re not too attached to that particular way of worship. For example before becoming Catholic, I used to find Gregorian chant 'not-so-pleasant'. Now, I find it the most beautiful sound of praise to god on earth.

You should worship God in the way that makes you comfortable.

God bless you.
Omar

Jars of Clay is taken under consideration one of my famous all time communities. I accept as true with the others that Newsboys, Casting Crowns, and Jeremy Camp are stable and well worth taking a glance at. satisfied Listening. BTW...How legalistic are you able to get human beings? God created music. Do you think of you will get to heaven and characteristic greater crowns and jewels because of the fact you regarded down on Christian Rock? It sounds greater such as you attempt to make your self experience as while you're greater proper than all human beings else. As a Christian i presumed i'd factor that out. Why would you discourage everyone who's finding for? You heavily think of God would desire to no longer use a music lyric to impression someones existence, or demonstrate a reality? Sorry for the rant, yet you're part of the reason Christians are being slammed so no longer worry-free on Yahoo solutions.

I had this problem too when I first became a Christian. I didn't care for the
common Christian music groups at all. But with time-a lot of different types
of Christian music has come to the forefront. Everything from R&B, reggae, to major hard rock.

I am sure if you look-you will find something that is suitable to your tastes.

As for worldly music...I, personally have a strong conviction about it. I can't listen to it because it plays on my emotions way too much. Gets me back into the wordly mind set. For me, it's too much. SO, I have learned to limit wordly music. For you-it may be different. Everyone has different convictions.

It's hard for me to get into the praise and worship at my church too and I really do not like to sing. A lot of the time I find it's because I am self conscience and not God conscience.

Everyone has their own way to worship God. Praise and worship is just one way of worshiping God.

You will probably (as time goes by) find that you will really like to start worshiping Jesus in song. But for now-it might not be for you.

Becoming a Christian is a major "paradigm shift". Your life totally changes and will continue to change. In a few years-you will be probably rocking out to Christian music! :0)!!!

BTW, congratualtions on the best decision you have ever made!

Praise and worship music can be a bit repetative and potentially boring IMO. It is there to get one in tune and ready to hear the message.

My former church had too much worship music IMO and I arrived about 10 minutes late to miss a portion of it.

There are all styles of christian music from country to head banger. You just have to find the artists who's style you like. You probably won't get it in your church, but you can listen outside of church.

There are many good Christian rock bands out there. When I was a Christian I did not enjoy it as much because my parents would not allow me to buy secular cds but a good rock band I found with lyrics you could worship to is 12 Stones. Their 1st cd i think was the best. Hope that helps.

(P.S. Dont judge us non-christians. We can be nice if you let us.)

First off, big congratulations!!! Secondly, different people praise the Lord with different types of music. Personally I kinda like it all, but mainly cos I'm a musician! I sing in a church choir, but have also played in Christian rock bands at various youth camps, but at the end of the day, its each to their own!!!
Even within the same kinda music, you know in the choir, there are some hymns I hate, and some I love, same with rock/ballad worship music, some I like, some I just think are a bit cheesy!

At the end of the day, as long as you are singing to the Lord from your heart, who cares what tune its to??

Everyone of us have favourite part of the service. Young people usually like music and singing better then reading and listening, but it's not a rule. Maybe you just aren't music type, but maybe you could try and listen to different styles, there could be something that would suit you better then Christian rock.

There are many forms of Christian music: Christian Rock, Christian Rap, Christian heavy metal, Praise and Worship, Gospel, or you can worship him silently if you like.....praise God the way you feel confortable....it is about the worship and praise not about the music...pray on it and let God reveal to you what you need to do...God Bless

I like Phil Keagy, never cared much for many others. I usually listen to regular rock, or Bob Dylan. I love my church because we waste no time with "praise and worship" and get straight into the real worship which is concentrating on the Bible, the mind of Christ. There are many more verses telling us to study the word then there are telling us to sing.

Peace be with you!
There are so many different kinds, traditional, rock, rap, country,...and so on, it depends on which style you like. If you don't like one kind, you can find another kind that you might like. Its nice to hear occasionally, and you feel better with those lyrics than regular music which may make you feel one way or another. IF you don't like their style of praise and worship there, you should explore different churches to find one you will be comfortable with and where the people are welcoming and polite (I've come across some stuffy, unwelcoming, impolite ones). Some kinds of music will resonnate with you and grow on you, but its still for occasional exposure; Regular music will still be your normal day-to-day music. Enjoy !

ps think for yourself and don't listen to Ewan or anyone trying to stop you from learning and discovering the richness of peace and glory and grace thats ahead
