It's true.. the original recipe for a Shirley Temple is w/ Ginger Ale. If you don't have ginger ale, use sprite or 7-up w/ a very light splash of coke, grenadine and cherries.

Ginger ale, grenadine syrup, and orange juice garnished with a maraschino cherry and slice of lemon. The Ginger ale is commonly substituted with 7-up, Sprite, or similar lemon-lime soft drink. The orange juice and lemon are commonly left out.

Every one says sprite but the best tasting I have ever found was 7up and grenadine. Yummmmm!
