on my job interview the paper said were u ever convicted of a crime..including robbery, shoplifting ect... and 4 ars ago i was with my friend and she stole and i also got a ticket for accesory to crime..so this job will do a background check to see and my record says that the case was dismissed without predijce and that i didnt owe any money to the court..also the paper said if the answers were answered wrongly that would dismiss u from hire.. i checked NO that i wasnt found gulity..is this wrong?? the job is a bank and i hope that doesnt stop me from getting hired..also i have been hired at other jobs that do background checks..there are 2 kinds of searches for that right?? i did a free one and my record never came up and then i looked at another site and my shoplifting thing came up?? does anyone know what kinds a searches banks do on criminal back ground checks??im worried

Fr. Chuck's right again. You weren't convicted of anything, so you are correct in checking "no" on your application. The term "background check" covers a lot of territory, and what's actually uncovered in a background check depends a lot on who's doing the checking. With a bank, I wouldn't worry a whole lot about it. Keep in mind that in most states, if you aren't hired, you have a right to ask why. It might be worth the peace of mind in asking, just so you'd know if potential employers are somehow finding out about your past mistake. Good luck to you.

I'd be worried too.

Banks are pretty tough and their background checks are thorough. If you have a record, it will show.

You may be blackballed just by having a record, regardless of the conviction.

Just be honest and consider it a lesson learned. Don't steal or hang out with people who steal.

If this is not a job with a police department, just arrests don't show up, only convictions show up on your public background check
