i get a lot of long posts and sermons every now and then from the bible to some of my questions and i really dont think it will do anyone any good and most of the time the person gets a lot of thumbs down for it too.

they really do not know how to answer the question using their own words ,because most likely there is no straight answer so they use sermons from the Bible to get around the question.
Most of the time they have no clue what you are talking about, but pretend they do with shoving bible verses down everyone 's throat.

When my father was (unsuccessfully) trying to raise us to be Bible-thumping Southern Baptists, his preacher told us that it was our duty to "go tell it from the mountain, over the hills and everywhere". In this scenario, we were to go forth and harrass everyone with our views as was required by the preacher.

And about that, "everyone, everywhere"? Well, he really meant it.

For a person influenced by these directions, all they think they are doing is "spreading the gospel" as required by their misguided belief system. For a person who's not interested in reading or listening to these long winded repetitions of other peoples belief systems, it can get pretty freaking irritating.

I'd never waste a sermon here. I have enough trouble coming up with good ones for Sunday morning.

I would guess it is an attempt to thoroughly illustrate an answer. Sometimes a subject requires more than a 2 sentence answer. I've seen non-christians write really long answers too. Don't stereotype.

Umm, wait. If you are getting long laundry lists of scriptures (which do little for people who aren't Christian or Jewish) I can understand the issue.

However, some of us read a lot of books, and tend to think in terms of what and how we read. Which means thatt we see things in greater complexity than your average hate books/love tv sort of person. And thus, our answers do tend to be longer, we are not preaching, simply trying to communicate our thoughts.

I am a Christian and it gets on my nerves too. When I see a long posting I don't even finish reading it.They are defeating their purpose.

Sometimes, to justify one's life, they must ALWAYS try to get others to do as they do.... Like the potheads in high school that always ask you to smoke with them, so they don't feel quite as dumb smoking up.... They are people that need others around them to validate themselves.
