yes, yes it is. i've thought long and hard about religion and people use it for fcukd up things. Faith in a god is cool, but religion just seperates people even more. Certain muslims use it to wage war on others, christians have used it to become wealthy and gain political control e.g. catholic church, spain, General Franco.

It seems to me that all the religions are more or less the same, christianity came from islam and judaism, but yet people will give their LIVES to show their allegience to their particular group. If anything, be faithful, believe in a supreme being, but don't make out yours is better than anyone elses - well i guess we'll all find out eventually.

Please take few minutes, and read the NT. You'll notice something fascinating. If people practiced Christianity as Christ modeled, the powerful people would lose it all.

Imagine if everyone begin to realize the emptiness of matieralism and stopped filling their lives with things and begin sharing everything they had with the poor. Where would the rich and powerful marketers be? Way out of business.

Imagine if many people begin to see that there is a higher power than the government, and held their government to a higher standard. Where would the powerful government men be?

Also, imagine if everyone started following the "turn the other cheek" and the "blessed are the peacemakers" philosophies and held their leaders to that standard? Where woudl the powerful makers of war be?

I speak on behalf of the Bible because it is the text that I know best, however I would not be at all suprised to discover that the qu'ran which I have only read small parts of, and in English (further diluting the meaning) also spells disaster for powerful men.

haha. first of all, it is impossible to get rid of religion. So wake up and smell the daffodils. Even if you tried people would believe in the existance of God.

second, if the world was fullllllllll of atheists then a person would no longer be good for the sake of being good. as many atheists claim, rather they would be good for the sake of opportunity. If the chance came to do bad they would do it, cuz they don't fear retribution, they don't fear sin, and they don't fear God.

Peace devi, I just wanted to tell you that you're right. I know the Quran better than the Bible, and I know for a fact that it would crumble the rich. However it would be better, because then it would uplift the poor, create a more balanced economy, and provide more opportunity for all.

Would you replace it with left wing ideology. Doesn't this government try to nanny and control you in as many different ways as possible? Isn't it their religion? In this day and age, why would the church want to control us? They are doing a pretty poor job. The government is far more effective. Isn't it that religions are misrepresented, rather than there being something wrong with the religion. You sound a little like Karl Marx. Communists always ban religion, because they don't want anything competing with their totalitarian regime. Without religion where would we have got our moral values from?

It always amazes me how many times this God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said “Thou shall not kill”. For example, God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6). In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody! In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

God of love my ar$e

I agree 100% with you..

I agree with you 100% but abolishing religion will not end this arnachy as personal greed and selfishness has blinded many to behave so disgracefully in the name of religion.
Religion is fine, but it has been usurped by fanatics who don't even want to be contradicted on their so-called belief. Look at the Moslems and their sharia law (an eye for an eye) and how they blow their top should you criticise their prophets. The Catholic church cannot stand any criticism either, but good for them, they won't kill you for that.
In short governments and religion have failed to make this world habitable to all without any conditions. I believe in God, but sometimes I ask myself, "Is God happy to see the wars in the Middle East and Afghanstan, and does He appreciate the corruption and tyranny inflicted upon the African people?" How does He feel if people kill in His name, take 9/11 and 7/7? I think God has been belittled by these fanatics and I believe if He were to pen His worst period in existence, the 21st century would not escape mention.

Psalms 116:15 "Pleasing to the Lord is the death of His saints"

This may seem like a peculiar verse, but we need to realize that when a Christian dies, he gets to meet God face to face. We will be able to finally have the fellowship with Him that He desires. We look at life through our mortal experience, but He knows what lies beyond the bend where we can't see. Doing away with religion won't do away with God. We all must die, but only He knows what is past the veil of death. We must trust Him to prepare the way for us.

Many a communist non religious regime ruled its masses with a different dream, and killed many people without any reference to religion.
So its not religion or god that kills people ,its people that kill people, whether religious or not.
Russia,China,North Korea(now theres a mad man with no god) ancient jungle tribes had never heard of religion,so stop blaming it for every problem in the world.

Religions, of whatever shade, have their own advantages and disadvantages. That people feed on the ignorance of other in the name of religion is a fact of life, but sometimes it could be a balm to a sore wound. there are still some religion that provides real answer to question of hereafter without the heavy load of making heaven or hell to weigh you down. Let them exist, those that will be benefit in whatever way will. cheers!!

Unfortunately religion will always be around as far as we're concerned. The people that are most worrying are the fanatics... of any religion.

One of the main reasons people are religious is because they are afraid of death and what happens next, and I can actually understand that. It takes a strong person to accept that after they die they will be starting off where they started before they were born, at a concious level
