absolutely sure that we don't jump to conclusions?

(and yes, though sincerely asked question, this is also partly an apology to Solomon Redux!)

In this context, there are many words that if not properly examined, lead us to peg the asker in certain categories. Prayer, for example (prayer can take many forms, not only Christian), in this case, for me, it was the introduction of modern scientific knowledge.

Since, so many times on the R and S board, the introduction of science into a question or argument, is a prelude to a condmemnation of theists of any stripes as stupid and backward for believing in a God when we have all this scientific knowledge, I automatically assumed that this is where he? (I'm asuming again, hope I'm not doubly wrong!) was going with his question.

And I was wrong. So Solomon, i apologize! And for everyone else, I ask, how much of the problems and conflicts on this board are based on the placement of askers into a stereotype based on buzz words?

Perfect story illustration:

One of my teachers in high school told me a story about how when she was in college one of her professors had the class write what their reaction would be if one of their students came to them and said they had intercourse with another student.

Well, my teacher and many other people in her class proceeded to write pages and pages of reaction about how the student was too young for such interaction, how they need to let the student know the possible ramifications of their action, etc. However, ONE student scribbled something quickly on their sheet and left class immediately.

The next day in class, the professor handed back the papers and asked the one student who scribbled on the paper and walked out to read what she had written. She said "I'd ask if they had a nice conversation."

The professor explained that he had not said "Sexual intercourse" - just "intercourse." It was the rest of the group who had jumped to the conclusion. Be VERY careful assuming what someone means.

i think you have a valid point,,,, people often react to the buzz words, without considering the whole subject
