Is it based on family size of just the rank of the enlisted member?

BAS is a SET rate, regardless if you have kids or not. But some single members do recieve partial BAS. But married folks, one rate, no matter how many kids you have.

The BAS is intended for the military member only. They have the option of keeping their meal card and eating at the chow hall or turning the card in and getting BAS. If they are in the field however they will deduct like $7 a day for each day they have to feed him from his BAS. It will all be listed on his LES.

Separate Rations Allowance does not change regardless of your family size, or rank. The only thing that changes is the Housing Allowance that depends mainly on the cost of living in the area.

It's a set rate. If I'm not mistaken it's about $265 a month. It doesn't change with how many kids you have. You can check armytimes.com and look under the money section and it tells you all about all the benefits.

enlisted members get 272.26 per month and officer get 187.89 per month. if the soldier is on a meal card the army takes out $7.70 per day

BAS is ONLY for the enlisted member. BAH changes if you have dependents or not.
