Be careful some of those "free scans" are actually malicious. I recommend that you google spybot -search & destroy and Ad-Aware SE. Download them and install... they are free and legit. Also make sure your windows is updated, check for Microsoft updates and download all security fixes.

No usualy you have to pay for them first then you can scan and fix at the sametime. Also beware of programs that fake scan your computer first then you download the program along with all the adware that comes with it. That's why you have to pay first because they make their money from the payment.
