When you eat, your body converts any food you don't need right away into triglycerides. Therefore, simply reducing the total amount of food you eat would reduce triglyceride levels. In addition to the amount of food, the kind of food matters, too. Avoid sugary foods, since they can raise triglycerides more than other healthy foods. Alcohol also has an even more potent ability to raise triglycerides, so avoid it. The same foods you would eat to be heart healthy (whole grains, low fat dairy, green vegetables) are the ones you would eat to reduce triglycerides. The Mayo Clinic has a wonderful article on this subject; please give it a click. Good luck. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/triglycerides/CL00015

Try a fat free diet. If the problem is familial, diet won't work but at least you will know what you are facing.
