Had to replace the alternator and now it idles rough at start-up and runs at a higher rpm at highway speeds than before.

actually unhook the negative for 5 minutes is all it takes to reset the eec IV computer.

You don't have to 'reset' the computer. Just hook up the battery, start the car and let it run a while while it learns. It will set itself after a few minutes at idle.

open the hood of the car and then lock the car by using the remote control after that unplug the battery wire the (-) negative wire and reconnect it after about 30 minutes .
