He only likes hot dogs, chicken nuggets and meatballs. Beef, turkey, chicken breast and bacon all gets chewed up and spit out! Why does he do this? What else should I feed him?

By the way....he eats EVERYTHING else! Including uncooked onion, mushrooms, salad, carrots, spinach, and a ton of other veggies that most 2 yr olds turn their noses up at.

Actually that is quite normal. A lot of kids just chew it and spit it out after extracting the flavors. :)
Do your home work on good protein sources and experiment. At two its important to see what he has eaten in a week- not in a day. Their bodies know what they want.

"I feel your pain."
My son used to gag on those meat items you mentioned. He was highly sensitive to the texture and to this day, still has some trouble eating those items to some degree. He would never have made a good Eskimo! (Hates chewing, or, prefers food he does chew to disintegrate easily). It will take some time - just don't stop introducing these things, or else you'll have continued trouble! Make sure he gets vegies as well, (like beans, carrots, pealed broccoli stems, etc). Chop them in manageable bites he can grab and praise him for any thing he does eat. Don't force it, but keep providing him with the foods. Eventually, he will start to develop an appetite for them.

Feed him what he will eat. Mmaybe he doesn't like the texture of meat when he chews it up. Maybe he just likes chewing it and doesn't realize that you can swallow it yet.

Many toddlers go through weird phases like this, but if he does it for a long period of time you may want to ask you doctor about it.

(You should ask now, so the Doc knows what's going on already. That way if you show up in a few weeks, the Doc isn't clueless as to what has been going on with your child's eating habits!)

I have seen several kids who went through a stage like this. Wait til the stage where he/she only wants to eat meat, and no veggies! It may last til adulthood!

I'm 8 years older then my younger brother and can remember him being the same way when he first started eating, hes still really picky about meat but loves hamburgers now and most sandwich meats.
Kids change their minds about some things, and maybe IT IS a little to hard to chew @ that age!

My son is around the same age and he really does not eats but he loves to drink. People tell me that when he gets hungry that he will eat . However, just to be on the same side I bought him some of that pedisure nutrient drinks and he will drink that most of the time. this way I know he is getting fuel for his system. His doctor and most of my friends told me this is a stage that children go thorough and they will eventually come out of it and will start eating everything in the house.

My son wouldn't touch ANY meat until he was three and we had to have him on iron drops for a while because he was mildly anemic. Now he'll eat most meat; he just suddenly started eating it!! Keep offering some of his disliked meats off your plate every day and supplement with high protein foods like beans and eggs and give orange juice (high vitamin c) with it to help absorbtion. Good luck!

If you don't already please dice up the hot dogs really small. I went to church with a child (3 years old) who choked on a hot dog and died. One of the adults in the room was a nurse but couldn't expell the piece of hot dog.

Meats are for protein. Protein is in cheese and beans. Toufu is a good source of protein. If he's allowed to eat peanuts that is another good source.

I only got mine to eat hotdogs at that age.. it was all hotdogs and mozarella cheese sticks.. .. I started trying to make things look interesting.. hamburger patties with ramen noodles sticking out the sides looking like spiders with made olive eyeballs.. .. Make bacon in a smiley face on the plate.. or cut it up to look like dred locks hair on a pancake with berry eyeballs or something.. make it try to look as silly as you can.. goodluck! dont worry too much, kids tastes are as develops as adults and sometimes they just cant manage loads of new flavors yet.. by the time he is 18, you will wish he only wants a hot dog or meatball, he will eat you out of house and home... goodluck!

My daughter is now 7 years old, and has only been eating meat for the past year or so. I kept telling her doctors about it, and they told me not to worry....it isn't that big of a deal. Taste buds develop at different stages for everyone!
