I prefer indirect lighting. If you have the pc in a corner, perhaps place a lamp in the two corners adjacent to the monitor. Do not place a lamp behind you as you will get the reflection from it. Also, do not have a light source in your range of vision, as that will cause your pupils to become smaller, causing less light from other sources to be viewed.

I have a 3 way lamp on my desk. I choos clk 1, 2 or 3 which ever seems best for the room lighting.

Also, I adjust the monitor brightness with its brightness control.
