I am 23 years old and never dye my hair. I went to get my hair cut and the hair stylist found ONE grey hair. It was like 6 inches of grey hair.

I know its only 1 grey hair, but is this normal for a 23 year old?

Should I expect to get a lot more soon or do many grey hairs take a long time to show up?

II don't want to dye my hair until I have out of control grey hairs..

P.S. I have a healthy diet and I am not extremely stressed.

It has been said that a vitamin B-12 dificiency can cause premature grey. Make sure you take a "whole food" multivitamin. Nature's Plus source of life for women is one of the best and it is not as expensive as most other whole food multis (about 20-25$ for 30 days). I have tried many vitamins and that one is my favourite and it doesn't wound my checkbook.
B-12 vitamins are mainly found in meat and dairy products and are also necessary for metabolism, maintain the central nervous system. Or you can get a B-complex supplement. What every vitamin you use, make sure the vitamins are chelated, which means that the vitamin is attached to amino acids which means the body can better absorb it.
Heredity does play a part as well.
A lot of info, but I hope I helped!

Not unusual as you see from the answers above. I have known people to go gray very early in life, but that is mostly in their family line, they have had a parent that has gone gray while still young. Gray is quite attractive on a young person, well the hair is actually turning white, and the mix with the still browns hair makes it look gray. And it often comes in a streak in the front which is very atractive,as well. You still have a lot of time to decide, and you will now notice many others that are turning white.

Sometimes you can get a grey hair, but once it falls out it will not grow back grey. The reason is that air can get trapped in the hair follicle, and the air bubble prevents the hair from taking the pigmentation.

Since it is just the one I would pull it out and see what happens.

not at all abnormal.everyone has a discolored strand or two.are ur parents grey yet ?if so,at what age did they seriously begin to grey-its likely u will follow the same genetic pattern.some people have a gene for early greying, they can be completely grey by 30.its fairly uncommon, and if that happened to one of ur parents,u would know about it im sure.so,probably nothing to worry about.if u do have a family history of premature greying, get calcium status checked.the gene for early grey is located next to a gene that predisposes one to osteoporosis, and people often experience both conditions. a few grey hairs in ur 20's is not odd.just ask ur parents and grandparents about their greying pattern.ps-its a myth that stress causes grey hair-it is caused by genetics and aging ,and only occasionally by severe malnutrition.think about it,if stress caused grey hair, wouldnt we all have turned grey the day we took our lsat's ???????

Go take a good look at some of your older family members....does prematurely gray hair run in the gene pool?

Frankly, at your age, this could be a great conversation starter. With the right style, gray hair can be extremely attractive.
