Nothing you can do for apthous ulcers. All sores in mouth last 10-14 days. Anything that lasts for longer than see a dentist. If this is really painful any OTC medications like orajel will numb the area. If you can; have a dentist rx a numbing rinse called viscous lidocaine (same stuff that they use to numb you for dental work). I've used the viscous quite a few times that I had an ulcer. Good luck!!!

Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. I think you probably have a canker sore. It's got a white center and it hurts like blazes. It's caused by a virus, and it will get better, but there's no way to hurry it. The good news is you can make it hurt a lot less. Go to any drugstore and ask for gentian violet. You don't need a prescription. They usually keep it behind the counter. It's cheap and almost nobody buys the stuff, so why waste shelf space? They have it, but you aren't likely to see it on display. Gentian violet is like purple ink. Put it on the canker and rinse your mouth out with water. It will mostly only stick to the white center of the sore. You'll have to re-apply it after eating. It won't make the canker sore go away any faster, but it will make you feel much better. I used to get cankers until I started taking vitamin C every day. Now I take 500 mg morning and evening. The vitamin C also made my athlete's foot go away. That's not all. Now I don't get colds often, and when I do they're milder. I remember having colds that made me cough up blood in the bad old days. Not any more.

In Australia we use Kenalog in Orabase. It's a corticosteroid (triamcinolone acetonide) in a waterproof gel that sticks on the ulcer and reduces the pain and duration.

I have looked at the site mentioned in previous answer, and strongly doubt its effectiveness. I am awaiting a reply from them regarding published scientific article.
Later... got a reply of no usefulness. Quackery.
