The Bible tells us to be PREPARED to answer EVERY man, for the blessed hope that is within us.
The bible tells us to STRIVE EARNESTLY, and stand firm! We are admonished to NOT put our light under a basket, but let it shine!
I do not believe that this means going out and ramming our views down the throats of others, but it also does not mean to cower when our beliefs are being assaulted, either!
There are many ways to spread the Gospel. Living Holy lives, teaching, preaching, arguing, debating. These are all good, but one must be neither ignorant of one's processed faith, nor shrink from the contest.

Remember, the lukewarm are spewed out!

How does comfort come into the equation?
Does not the Bible tell us that the flesh and the nature state of man is at war with the things of God?
Saying that we do not do because we are not 'comfortable' is just giving into sinful flesh when it desire to not follow God, is it not?

THANK YOU!

I'm an atheist but I believe that everyone has the right to believe what they study and come to conclude. I *HATE* Christians, and ANYONE else (other atheists included), who believe but cannot stand firm in their beliefs. Either know a thing or don't know a thing, do not stand in the middle with a spine so weak that a wet noodle would stand a better chance in a debate.

If something's worth beliving and living, you'd DARNED well better KNOW it.

I think the problem with this thought is some people are told that they must show their faith by participating in what is rather obnoxious behavior. I won't do something that I'm not comfortable with. I went through "The Way of the Master" training a while back, and while the method itself is convincing, I'm not a "street preacher" type. And I felt free to show myself out the door before the pressure started to set in.

When I watched the Passion of the Christ I realised exactly what Jesus went through for humanity... He loved us SO much that He suffered the way He did. We did not and still do not deserve the love He gave us and yet He still and will always love us, no doubt... Jesus never holds back for us... The least we as Christians can do is stand up for our Lord!! That's what it boils down to... How much do we actually love Christ?? Coz if we loved Him enough we would be willing to lay our lives down for Him...

I'm not timid in my faith, it's just not a subject that comes up a whole lot when I'm out and about. When it does come up I definitely let it be known that I'm a Christian and stand by my God through thick and thin!

I think its twofold.

Most Christians are so embibed by our culture of tolerance they struggle with feeling it is somehow wrong to share their faith.

But more important, and disappointing, is that it can only mean they are embarrassed about Jesus. Seriously, why else would you be afriad to talk about him? If you get a new car or TV you tell everyone you know.

Too many so-called "Christians" view their religion as a social club rather than as a way of life which should influence every action the adherent takes. Too many so-called "Christians" do not give any real evidence of taking their so-called "faith" seriously and understanding that it obligates them to do Christ's work.

It seems that three activities can help deepen one's faith; sadly only two of them are acknowledged by most of Christendom's clergy; they are: regular bible reading, regular prayer, and regular personal ministry.

Perhaps these so-called "Christians" are ignorant that the bible most closely associates being "Christian" with PREACHING about Christ and Christ's teachings. Review all three times the bible uses the term "Christian" and note that the context connects the term with:
"declaring the good news"
'teaching quite a crowd'
'open eyes, turn from dark to light'
"uttering sayings of truth"
"persuade"
"keep on glorifying"

(Acts 11:20-26) [The early disciples of Jesus] began talking to the Greek-speaking people, declaring the good news of the Lord Jesus... and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians.

(Acts 26:17-28) [Jesus said to Paul] I am sending you, to open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God... Paul said: “I am not going mad, Your Excellency Festus, but I am uttering sayings of truth and of soundness of mind. ...Do you, King Agrippa, believe the Prophets? I know you believe.” But Agrippa said to Paul: “In a short time you would persuade me to become a Christian.”

(1 Peter 4:14-16) If you are being reproached for the name of Christ, you are happy... But if he suffers as a Christian, let him not feel shame, but let him keep on glorifying God in this name

Sadly, so-called "Christians" try to hijack the term "Christian" and hide its Scriptural implications. Yet, the preaching work makes it clear that the relatively small religion of Jehovah's Witnesses are by far the most prominent followers of Christ:

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

Don't know about being timid. But often with those that don't want to listen....actions speak louder than words. And by actions I mean the way we have chosen to lead our lives and the results that they witness. Often people ask us about our happiness, fulfillment, why we do what we do. That's when I share my faith. Then they want to listen.

I think some are timid because inside they really know their faith is false and they are only attending church to socialize. Mostly this is an unconscious thing.

Maybe some of them are starting to dislike their reputation for being obnoxious about their faith.
