I am doing a school speech assignment, and my topic is about why “why women should be in the Navy Seals” so could you guys help me out and give me some reasons why we should be able to?! Cant women do anything men can do?! There are a lot of women out there that want to be in the Seals, but no one will let them. Just because girls have their time of the month doesnt mean that they cant be in the Seals. I read all of the forums on this but nothing helped me, and also, I wouldn’t like any reasons why we shouldn’t be in it, b/c I already have plenty…..so please help me out. Thanks!

To accomplish what you want; you're going to need to use a lot of stereotypes and spin. Like men's and women's land speed gaps are decreasing ... women runners are becoming as fast as men. Women notice details better than most men; therefore women and men in combination security patrol teams are best. Women are global thinkers unlike men who logic in a linear fashion and primarily only use one side of their brain. Women are more social therefor better apt to master foreign languages. Women sharpshooters are some of the best in the world. Women are smaller in general and can be more stealthy. Less materials are needed to cloth them, so its more economical to have an all womans SEAL Team. Stuff like that.

The rule is that women can not be in a combat arm MOS, and the Navy Seals as well as Special Forces are primarily for combat. There are some loop holes, i.e. aircraft pilots, and mp's just to name a couple that I know of. I have heard of a few different reasons of why women are kept from these types of jobs, keep in mind this is just from conversations had with fellow NCOs and Officers. (Keep in mind that their has been about 80 or so women to lose their lives thus far in the current conflict) I was in the Airborne Infantry by the way, and women can go airborne and I am pretty sure they can be in some 18 series MOSs (18 series is used for SF)but not the combat ones.

1. "It would be terrible for the military's public image to lose allot of women in combat", look at the public out cry for the small crew with a few women that were ambushed after getting separated from their convoy, I believe one died and the other one was taken prisoner, raped repeatedly, before army rescued her.
2. "In combat you go months sometime without being able to clean ones self properly", and I can tell you for a fact this one is true!
3. "The just plain old issue of mixing in women and men in that kind of situation, there is allot of problems as it is in soft skill MOS's with fraternization, put them together out on there own in the middle of nowhere and it would be asking for more problems"

And no offense but the standards are not the same for women as they are for men, the evidence of that is the standard of which they use to score physical fitness tests, women don't have to do nearly as much as a man does, but the pay is the same if they are the same rank, but that is the same in the civilian world too, just look at the requirements during physical tests preformed in the police academies as well as fire departments. I think that it all need’s to be changed to a certain extent to make it fair across the board.

Watch GI Jane with Demi moore. That gives a pretty good vision of the issues at hand. My opinion is that women in the navy seals would bring a sexual element into the picture that just doesn't belong. If they wan to have women in Navy seal units they should be all women in that unit. Needless to say it would be a laughing stock in the armed forces.
If your a women and you want to be a bad *** commando join the CIA. The CIA needs just as many women as men and they do the same exact jobs including combat assignments.

WOW, you ask an open question but expect a closed one sided answer.
First it there is females or at least there was at least one that I know of in "Special Forces". She performed at military open house shows. She was a paratrooper (I believe with the 101st). She was an enlisted member and also a civilian airline pilot. She held or was attempting a record of high jumps.
I agree that there are women doing traditional men's jobs that a lot of men can't do. The argument against women not being able to do certain jobs is physical stature not her menses.
I have no knowledge if women are in the Seals but I feel that they should be allowed to apply. Just like men this will give them the opportunity to prove or disprove the ability to pass or fail along with male applicants.

There really are somethings men can do that women can't or shouldn't do. I personally think that there shouldn't be women in the SEALS or SF and am glad they can't be. Women really need to stop and think of the forms of torture that can be used on them that won't be on men and the fact that they can be used agaginst members of their team because they'll try to protect the women first. My opinion...just not a good idea whether you can physically handle it or not.

Also 101st is NOT special forces. Special forces is a separate entity...aka the green berets.

I doubt that there are "a lot" of women who want to be US Navy Seals, considering that they are basically military assassins. The few women who are sufficiently masculine in their inclinations to want to be Seals often can't pass the physical test requirements, which, I understand, are challenging even to many strong men. Do you expect them to lower the requirements so that women can get in? And do you expect your country's enemies to be gracious and considerate of you, when you come to kill them, just because you're a GIRL?

Wow. What a question to answer in a forum. This is a tough and touchy area, but I'll try to sum it up to you as brief as possible. Bear with me.

Women are NOT allow to operate in the special forces of the US Military in FRONT LINE FIGHTING. The main reason is due to the physical AND psychological nature of women in combat. The US Military has researched this thoroughly and used other countries information to base their decision.

The military has these studies about personel losses in combat. They have numbers for everything, If it rains: x amount more will die; If its in the jungle: x amount more will die; and so forth. What the military has discovered is that wounding a soldier is actually more effective in taking out personel from one battle then killing a soldier (yes, there is a study on such a horrible subject).

The reasoning of this is that you kill a soldier: he or she is dead. After the battle that person might be collected (depending on if his/her side won the battle). But if you wound a soldier, someone might stop to try to save him/her (a medic) then they have to transport that person back from the front lines (which takes another person) and then they have to go to the hospital (which takes more people and money) and etc, etc, etc. One person injured in battle could take 3 other people out of 1 battle as opposed to killing 1 person. (Yes, a horrible thought).

But if you factor that wounded person being a FEMALE then the psychological damge is more fierce. More people will stop to try to save a female(there is an actual forumla for this). More people will try to save her. And more people will suffer is she dies. This theory has actually been proven by several armies in battle but the most well known is the Israeli Army during the late 40's. The Israeli Defense Army actually had women in combat but the psychological damage was too great and they completely held out females after their war in 1948 all the way up to 1998.

And that's the reason why women aren't allowed in FRONT LINE COMBAT. They are allowed in rear forces, which often fall into combat (cut the rear supplies and you cut the front lines). And special forces are beyond the front lines.

The US Military would also suffer greatly if the media was showing a large number of females die in front line fighting.

The physical nature of women vs. men is the easier aspect to see. Women in sports is a decent example (can any woman compete professionally in the NFL?) While this arguement can bring strong protest about women equality (which it should) it can't be disproven that their are differences between men and women (both physically and mentally). Differences shouldn't equate to being unequal, but sometimes people like to state it that way.

I hope this helps some in your question. I have even tried to research some of the other 'answers' here about women in the Special Forces dying in the current US/Iraq war, but I have not found them to be true.

Best of luck to you in your quest to finding this answer.

"Just because girls have their time of the month doesnt mean that they cant be in the Seals"

The uncomfortable truth is that the majority of women and men are simply not strong or physically fit enough to become a Seal. I'm male and I certainly could not do it.

Perhaps some things are more important than gender equality?

Women can be in the Navy Seals, and there are some to this day... The only thing they can't do is participate in combat missions... They play more of a logistics role, which is extremely important job to a seal team in a combat zone... It has nothing to do with the fact that woman can't perform like men, It's because of the distraction they would cause during a military engagement... It's been documented that during a fire fight if both male and female soldiers were involved in the fight, that the man would risk more, trying to protect the female soldier... It comes down to natural instinct of the male human to protect the females...

actually thats exactly what it means, can you imagine getting your period and not being able to shower for weeks? if a woman got captured she would automatically get raped or sold as a sex slave, women biologically aren't as strong as men and would have a hard time carrying the equipment and fighting off the enemy who are ALL men
