How is it any of your business?

Is abortion the sole purpose of a clinic like that?

2006-11-16 05:05:59 · update #2

OK, some of you seem to be missing my point...I am a woman who was harassed outside a Planned Parenthood...on my way in to get birth control pills.

Planned Parenthood clinics provide a lot more services than just abortions, don't just assume that because someone is going to a Planned Parenthood clinic they are there for an abortion. They could be going for birth control, pregnancy testing, they also give check ups and pap tests, treat and test STD's. Ignorance can be deadly. Stop the ignorance.

To the point of the question. NO it not OK to HARASS anyone. It is against the law. Thats why in this issue often times police are there to a buffer between customers of Abortion clinics and those who don't agree.
Now to the judgment call. In most states where public clinics are operating apparently it is not against the law and customers have the right to frequent them.
Just as no one has the right to harass you to frequent your private doctor, for whatever reason. It is your business what you go and seek medical attention for. There are people who also don't believe in medical intervention but they can't harass people who do.

A very close friend of mine used to get called a slut and a murdered whenever she went to Planned Parenthood to pick up birth control. This is when she was in college and PP was the most economical place to get protection. I have also been accosted on my way in to get my annual or pick up birth control, back before I qualified for medical insurance at my job.

A large part of me wants to go to Planned Parenthood these days just so I can get into a good old debate with the disgusting people who stand outside judging and condemning every woman who walks in. But that would mean stooping to their level, so I don't.

Blessed be.

Nobody should ever be harassed going into a Planned Parenthood clinic.

It is not ok! I am against abortion and still it's not ok.

Planned parenthood is not just for abortions...in fact most do not provide abortions, just referrals to doctors that do.
They offer more contraceptive advice and the contraceptives themselves. Make no mistake that the Catholic/Evangelical agenda is behind most of this mis-information. It's not just abortion that catholicism hates, it's also contraception.

Even if they only did abortions I wouldn't do it...these young women have enough problems going on in their lives without people yelling and holding signs up like baby killers. I think abortion is wrong, so my wife and I don't do it. we have three wonderful children.

This issue is so weighted on BOTH side of it. It has been corrupted by greed on both sides. This is not to say that all Pro-life or Pro-choice people are corrupt; it's the "power-brokers" behind the scenes that I speak of.

Pro-lifers/Religions claim a moral ground; but the money behind it is looking for more pew warming, tithe giving (unscriptural) buttock in the pews.

Pro-choicers claim right to choice; but the money behind it wants more medical services and the money from by-products of the abortion (illegal to sell, but they find ways around the law to make money) and insurance companies hate paying for pregnancies.

No- according to our sacred spiritual beliefs, codified in the ancient texts- abortion is wrong.
or... wait a minute. Actually- there isn't anything about abortion in the bible (is there?). This pro-life value is something that was created rather recently- not by God, but by OMG...Men! (not even women)
And these are the same type of men who villify gay people and then turn out to be gay themselves!!!

Perhaps I should stop blindly listening to these spiritual 'leaders' and start thinking for myself, and using my own value system. Perhaps I should practice forgiveness and understanding like Jesus taught.
...Naw. It's far more fun to be a bigot against other people and believe them to be sinners. That way I feel better about myself and feel superior to others. So sure- let's throw rocks at people who have different values than us. That makes so much more sense.

ummm.... you shouldn't harass anyone who goes in to anywhere. if you're refering to the fact that you don't agree with birth control, well sorry, it's their life and it's legal, so get over it. not to mention, not everyone going into planned parenthood is getting an abortion or birth control. it is a very affordable option for just regular exams for those who aren't covered by health insurance.

Are you listening to Thom Hartman? He was just on the radio talking about people setting up fake clinics and harassing young pregnant girls. They gave one girl a sonogram and came back in with a picture and a present - a little doll - and congratulated her. They said they wanted the abortion and the ladies said hold on. They came back with a pair of scissors and told her to cut the doll up because that is what she would be doing to her baby.

Does the abortion cause more grief or these people?

NO it is not. I don't know if any clinics ever do this anymore, but I've heard that protesters now have to stand a block away so they can't prevent the clients from walking in. Harassing is wrong, no matter what. I'm Pro-Life, but I'd rather pray for a person in private then call them names and degrade them for their choice.

No. It's not OK to harrass anyone who enters any legal establishment. Planned Parenthood offers a wide variety of services, such as birth control (which would negate the need for abortion!), pregnancy testing, STD testing, FAMILY PLANNING, etc. Don't assume! (do you know the definition of "assume"?
