Does anyone have a trick or something we can purchase somewhere that can protect our new grass from our puppy's pee? I heard that if you water the grass REALLY frequently or if you put apple juice in your dog's water it will neutralize the acid in the urine that causes the grass to die. Anyone have a tried and true suggestion to help?!

We water our grass down thoroughly where the dog pees, as it dilutes the urine so it isn't so potent and saves our grass each time. This is a great way and costs nothing but a little time to observe your dog and get the spot watered down.

Another option to help is to train your dog to "go" in a particular area. Then you can just make a point to water that "area" down each day and it will minimize the spread out pee spots you'd have to watch for.

Have had dogs and grass for twenty five years. There is no way to prevent damage to the grass. Only thing that works is if you hose the grass down soon after the dog has peed. It dilutes the urine. Or if you have the space you could divide up your yard and keep the dogs in one area.

Unless you're feeding the dog acid, the pee isn't what's killing the grass. Or at least I seriously doubt it. Sometimes new sod comes with fire ants or bacteria in the soil. I'd give your lawn a good spray with miracle grow and stop blaming the dog!

The acid and excess nutrients in the urine kills the grass...it is like pouring pure fertilizer on the lawn...One wy to prevelt burning it to dilute it quickly, run the hose on it to dillute the urine.

You can't really do anything I'm afraid, Bitches kill the grass and Dogs kill the shrubs it's one of the joys of dog ownership!!!
GitEmGang is right, build a run with either concrete or gravel or part concrete part gravel.

You were on the right track with adding something to your pet's water, but it's Apple Cider Vinegar (not apple juice). The purpose of the vinegar is to help balance out your pet's PH.

LMAO!!You "heard" WRONG!!!!!

*****NOT**** "acid"-NITROGEN!!!!
NOTHING you can give it will STOP that.

Either follow it around w/a HOSE for the next 15 YEARS *OR* keep it OFF the grass! Build a pen w/a patio block, poured concrete or -the poorest choice-gravel floor!
