Exactly what does fasting contribute?

Yes, but not just fasting alone. Jesus mentioned prayer, as well.

Fasting is denying the physical self what it craves (not just food) so you can gain control, and allow your spiritual side to soar.

Keep it down to about 12-24 hours.

In Hindu religion Upavaasam(fasting) is considered as a part of Religious Rituals that helps you in attaining salavation. The scriptures prescribe (atleast) two days in a month(11th day=Ekaa Dasi) from Newmoon(Amaavaasya) and 11th day from Fullmoon.Plain ,pure water is allowed. No solid/liquid food. Some (majority ladies) follow full fasting and many, partial fasting.Once a year Nirjala Ekaadasi-not even water is allowed.Liver glycogen(glucineogenesis) and fat are mobilised to supply energy to body during a short(one day)fasting and liver becomes clean after a true fasting.sri.Mahathama Gandhi undertook fasting as a measure to oppose violence. anywhere.

I have never fasted on purpose. When I was a little kid growing up dirt poor I fasted but I didn't have a choice nor did I connect with god.

Physically, I think that denying your body food, helps clear up the toxins and junk floating around your vessels. You see things more clearly. I have done long fasts...day and night, not just days, and I have seen its effects. Along with it, my sight was better, thoughts of bodily needs was down and not a distraction. (ever been praying on an empty stomach....how does salad work its way into my prayer...?)

This is what I remember when I used to be a christian.......
Fasting is when you put your flesh under submission to the spirit. When you do that, it is supposed to bring you closer to God because he is spirit.

It can also help you lose weight if needed! lol

What they are really talking about in the Bible, is fasting of the mind...

Giving up imagination, in exchange for reality!

Verily so.

It is through FASTING that your prayers may be heard by the Heavenly Father, according to the teachings of Yeshua/Jesus, as it is written.

Peace be with you.

Nope, when my parents were making the whole family fast for a couple days, it only made me resentful and hungry. LOL

No, Fasting just makes you hungry, I do not see anywhere in the bible where GOD stated that Fasting will draw you nearer to him.
