I live in northern California and am seeking sole custody of my two chidren, ages 5 &7. I have no idea where their "father" is nor do I want one. Does anybody know how long there has to be no contact for or any websites with good info about this and the court process. Thank you for any help.

Well you obviously have custody and I'm sure you will never be deprived of it as long as you are a "fit" mother. The father is out of the picture so even if he does show up his prolonged absence will not be in his favour. You don't need to worry I'm sure, unless the purpose of your question is to seek child support. If you marry someone else, however, and he wants to adopt your child, you might have to seek out the biological father for permission.
