At times instead of going "Meow!". Max will make these noises, that to me sound, like he's chatting with you, instead of, meowing at you.

They have different voices as we do. A cat has over a hundred different vocal sounds.
I have two cats, one meows very soft and sweet, to the point people assume he is female. The other is loud and hoarse, almost like he's yelling with a sore throat. They 'talk' too, little chirps and clucking or whatever you want to call it. They are just communicating with us, and using their voice as we do.

Our cat doesn't meow - she makes a kind of airy Pheee sound sometimes with a squeak at the end.

One of my cats YELLS at me! When I'm too slow in filling the food dish... he meows... but it's a LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG meow... like at least 30 seconds... and LOUD!!!!
I used to have a cat (he died at 15+) who would "ask" for milk. (This was before I knew how bad cows milk is for cats!!!) EVERY time I'd go NEAR the fridge, he'd go "MRRRALLK". I SWEAR! Even my friends were like "WTF did your CAT just say???" HAHA. It was pretty cool. :)
OOH! I almost forgot... YEARS ago we had this kitten we'd rescued. We also had rescued a pigeon around the same time. I kid you not... the cat never learned to meow! It COOED! It was the CUTEST thing! He just walked around cooing his entire life.. instead of meowing. Very weird, but super cute!

When my cat doesnt like something, her meow sounds almost like EWW.
My other cat makes these squirel noises when she is playing.

My female cat Cookie,meows normally,but her brother Bear sounds like one of those dolls you squeeze and says "mama" it's quite funny!

i've seen that, its cute when my bf's cat will "talk back" when i say something to her, its like a meow with an accent...its funny.
