...it's your body's way of telling you it needs something that food provides?

For example, if all of a sudden you crave eggs. Do you think (or is it fact) that it's your body telling you it needs the protein or fat the eggs provide?

The reason I ask is because all of a sudden, I've been craving hardboiled eggs and I'm curious to know if it's my body that is trying to tell me something.

Thanks!

LMAO...ok ok, I'm not pregnant (we were safe that night, hun...lol).

I already knew that about pregnant women, but I didn't know if it worked the same way for men or not. After all, I am still just eating for myself!

absolutely, in fact this is proven to be true. there was some study regarding migraine suffers and after they went through all their symptoms and threw up many of them reported craving certain things like high protein and fat meals. they reported that after having that they felt better. i think this is also true about pregnant women. i think the egg thing with you is your body is craving proteins, i love eggs myself...put a little horseradish sauce (not pure horseradish) on it and eat it just like that, its spicy and good for you. so go boil a dozen eggs and enjoy!

I have wondered about the same thing. The pediatrician said that my kids would want to avoid foods that they are allergic to and would have a strong opinion against them. But my kids didn't agree with that theory completely. They are adults now and don't have adverse tastes to foods that they were supposedly allergic, too.
The whole idea makes alot of sense to me - I wonder if we used to have it before we evolved and used it when it was necessary for survival. Since we don't need that skill anymore - we have lost it?
On the other side - I know alot of us crave sugar and we sure don't actually need it. I've craved some weird foods when I was pregnant and not pregnant but it never seemed to be something that was particularly healthy.
Some people crave ice - and chew ice and I heard that is from an iron deficiency. I don't know.
It is a great question, though, and I'll be watching to see if you get some more direct answers than mine!

Yes! Unless it was provoked by an advertisement of some sort, of course. The best thing to do is eat what you crave--if it is something unhealthy like oily potato chips, eat some healthy kind of fat like peanuts.
I never like eggs but sometimes I crave them when I have a sickness or infection. (Egg white is supposed to have a correlation with that.)

I always, as a rule, listen to my body. If I feel like eating something I eat it but be careful to listen when it tells me to stop. It's the best way to stay healthy and fit. But for those that have eating disorders or are always craving and eating junk food they need to retrain their brain. Does that make sense?

Your body doesn't know what ingredients are in a egg so it can't know to crave them.

In the dim recesses of my feeble little mind it seems like I remember someone saying you are more bound to crave things you are alergic too.

ya its actually proven that if your craving somthing, like bread or cheese your body wants it, this doesnt go for like burger or fries cuz thats a wanting not a craving.
