His son said unto us, "once again I say unto you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the gates of heaven." matthew 19:24.

is it his wish for us to live a life of poverty, versus a life full of riches and givings to others. I know I could help many more with riches than without.

Jimmy,

The message in Matthew 19 is not that you must be poor or that poverty is the only way into Heaven. If that is your belief, you are mistaken.

The message is..."IF you allow anything to come between you and God...you are putting your eternity in grave danger.

see if this helps.

In the old days. City's would build a fort around the city to protect from their eniemies. They had one large gate that people and animals to come end and out. That one gate was protected with guards at all times. Also, the large gate would be closed at night. That way the eniemies could not sneak in the city. Alright now. beside the big large gate there was a very small gate. If a traveler would come by at night. And wanted to get into the city. They would not open the big gate. Because they never know when the eniemies was trying to get the gate open. So they could attack the city. Now, the little gate was hard to get Thur. The camel would have to get on it kneels a crawl Thur. It was hard but, it could be done. If the traveler wanted to get in. So you see it made it impossible for the eniemies to sneak in the little gate. The camel had to drop its entire load to get thru.

This little gate was called a "niddle". Now, Jesus said it was easier for a camel to get thru the eye of the needle than a rich man to get into Heaven. why? The camel had to drop it load and pride to get thru the needle. and crawe thru. But, it could be done. The camel had to get everthing
off and go thru the needle one way. The tunnel thru the open path was called the "eye"
.
A rich man has so much. He doesn't think he needs Jesus to get into Heaven. The only way the rich man can get into Heaven is drop his pride and willing to ask Jesus to save HIm. This is the same way that anybody gets Saved. Thru the door of Jesus and the Road to Jesus is very narrow. But, you can be saved if you will drop your pride. and ask Jesus to save us.

hopes this helps.

It is not His wish for us to live a life of poverty. This quote is simply speaking the truth. I believe to receive the gift of heaven you must ask God into your heart and be willing to live your life according to His will. A rich man will have a more difficult time doing this because of so much temptation to live a "worldly life". The assumption that you can help more people with riches than with out is something I've always thought too.......but think of how much time we waste chasing rainbows that we could be using to help people now.

Jesus only said it would be more difficult.
Not impossible.
There is nothing wrong with being rich.
What's important is one's attitude toward those riches.
Jsus invited a rich young man to be his follower.
But the fellow said 'no'.
Why?
Because he had many riches Mark 10:22.
One cannot slave for God and for riches Matthew 6:24.
One can have riches, but should not make the mistake of trusting in them.

First you need to know what you are talking about. There were 2 camels in that day and age. One today would be spelled camel and the other is camal. One is a desert animal the other is a thick thread that was hard to thread in a needle. The church wants you to believe one think and maybe the reality is something else.

I believe if you take this in a general sense. Typically those that have riches have had to do so with some immorality. Those at the highest levels most likely have done more.

This is not always the scenario but it's one verse written 2000 years ago.

No, I don't believe that God wants us to be impoverished. However, with wealth comes responsibility and the pursuit of wealth often conflicts with that responsibility. Therefore, it is easier for a poor person to be righteous, but it is more rewarding if a wealthy person can manage the same.

He was using hyperbole here. Just trying to make the point that if we make riches our focus or our passion, it's hard to make room for spiritual things.
