I took my son off the bottle at 10 mths.. He didn't care.. He went straight to the sippy cup no problems.. I think the longer you wait the more attached the kid becomes to the bottle and your doctor will tell you that it's just not healthy.. Ever heard of Bottle rot on the teeth.. That's what it does.. i suggest you take that bottle away right now and give him a big boy cup.. he'll probably put up a fight, but just be consistent and it'll all be worth it in the end.. Good luck to you

I started my daughter on sippy cups around 5 months. She still got the bottle but would get the sippy once a day.
When she turned 13 months old she no longer got the bottle at all and I started introducing a cup with a lid and straw. She's 17 months old now and mostly drinks from a cup with a lid and straw. She still gets her sippy cup but I plan to take it away around 2 or 2 1/2

The good thing is that he can drink from a sippy cup during the day. It's best to wean him off the bottle, especially at night, to avoid tooth decay. The sugars from the milk can cause cavities.
That being said, my son fully gave up the bottle at about 16-17 months. It can be a slow process. You can start off by giving him his last bottle well before bedtime so that he doesn't associate milk with sleep. Once he's used to having that last bottle early in the evening, it should be easier to switch him to the sippy cup for every drink. As for the morning bottle (the harder one in my opinion), try giving only half the amount in the bottle and the other half in a sippy cup. My son would scream if I tried to give him a sippy cup first thing in the morning. Now he's used to it and can't drink from a bottle.
hope that helps.

My daughter is also 16 months and for about a month now I have just been giving her sippy cups and sometimes I go back to the good ole bottle...so NO your son is not too old. If it makes him happy then whats the problem? Go by what your child likes not what the public says is right!

I agree that a baby should not take any milk to bed- or juice or anything other than a little water. If you are having a tough time getting him away from a bottle at night I would recommend the sippy cup called Nuby- with the silicone spout. This spout is very similar to a nipple of a bottle. This way you can get him off the bottle altogether at night without making too much of an abrupt change. But, if he wants to drink you have to remain firm with water only. He will get used to it. Oh I forgot to say- I took my daughter off the bottle at 12 mos- just gave her the Nuby- eventually she started drinking from cups with harder plastic spouts.

My daughter was 13 months old. We began the transition as soon as she was 12 months. Took away one bottle a week until she was just down to the sippy cup. The bedtime bottle was the last to go.

My son will be 14 months soon and just this week, I've really started only allowing him to have it at bed time and naps. Other than that he uses his sippy cup. I haven't had any problems yet. I would say by age 2. I'm hoping to have my son done w/ it by the time he is 16-18 months.
Good Luck!

No he is not to old but it is unwise to have anything in the bottle he takes to bed but water as it can cause tooth decay. My daughter liked a bottle of water in bed till she was 3 1/2. You could give him a sippy cup of milk before bed then the bottle of water. He will give up the bottle when he is ready. Sucking is comforting to young children.

I took my daughter off of the bottle at 8 months before she could say the word bottle. That way she couldn't ask for it. She didn't make a fuss or anything. At bedtime she is only allowed a drink of water or milk. If she has already brushed her teeth she is only allowed water she is 18 months old now.

Why is he taking a bottle to bed? He should never have been allowed to go to bed with a bottle from the very start. If he needed a "bedtime" bottle he should have been held and fed then put down to sleep. Putting a baby to bed with a bottle can cause ear infections as well as rot the teeth he has been getting.
