My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy at the end of March. We really don't need a fancy hotel room. Just a clean place to crash with a bed (and we do want our own bathroom). We would like to be reasonably close to the sights as well. We are planning on staying in Rome for a few days and then either a few days in Tuscany or a few days on the coast. Does anyone have a ballpark figure of what we should expect to spend on lodging?

As long as you avoid the Easter long weekend, you should be able to get a double room with private bath in a nice two or three star hotel for about EUR 100 per night.

Here is the web site for the hotel where we always stay in Rome: Hotel Delle Muse - http://www.hoteldellemuse.com/
Note that they offer a 5% internet discount.

A great budget feature is that guests at the hotel may eat in the private hotel restaurant, where delicious home cooked three-course meals are served nightly for just 15 euro per person.

Hope that helps!
