Recycle is maybe not the first thing that comes to mind, because when you recycle, it takes energy to convert it into something else, and until the energy is from renewable sources, this, if you think about it what help global warming.
The best thing to do are pretty basic. Switch off TV and other appliances when not in use at the mains; do not leave it on standby. Do you know you can save a lot of money doing it that way.
Switch off light bulbs that are not in use, do not use unnecessary heating for your house. You could easily wear more clothes inside, like the old stuff you dont wear anymore could be a good idea.
Try walking if possible instead of using the car, e.g. Going to local shops to buy some bread and milk.
Little things really, but if you do this, at the end of the year, will will also notice your electricity and gas bills will be cheaper, since you are not using as much. So in fact you doing to good things. Saving the planet and saving your money...

The short answer is very little.
Even if we accept that it's CO2 emissions that are causing global warming (which they aren’t), if the UK stopped *all* CO2 production tomorrow it would have almost no effect, because the UK only produces 2% of the global human-based CO2 output. By 2035 our huge sacrifice would result in a reduction in temperature of six thousandths of a degree C.
As I said, this assumes that the current global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect of increased levels of CO2. Actually, it isn't. The current warming we are experiencing is most likely being caused by the sun, which is the hottest it's been for at least the last 11,400 years.
And don't forget that the Earth warming up is *not* unnatural. During the Medieval Warm Period it was about 3°C warmer than it is now.
Any attempt by mankind to stop the current, probably completely natural, warming trend, whilst being good for mankind, is in no way green. It would be quite the opposite!

(Tackling the biggest issue, emmisions):
'Leading by example' is pointless while nations on other continents remain free to make and use much more polluting planes/ trucks/ buses/ motorbikes/ power stations. The sheer number of aircraft and vehicles that will be owned and used in say 10 years in the biggest emerging economies will render the amount of pollution generated in the West irrelevant.
So the main issue is to encourage or possibly even force EMERGING nations to adopt the LATEST technology.
There has been a long tradition of certain countries buying OLD technology from more developed economies. We should refuse, rather than pocket the cash from the sale of old plant. There is in truth no real argument, in a global sense, for Western legislators adopting ever more stringent levels here. It would be better if we spent the extra cash this would cost on selling the SAME technology we have at a discount, rather than spend ever more on better new products for the increasingly less significant (in global warming terms) industrialised nations.
Letting, say, China and India pollute the planet with technology no longer allowed for sale within Europe is not going to help the Asian fog one bit.
In India, for example, they could use Honda engines, bolted into Hindustan vehicles, rather than powerplants eg from Vauxhall that exited the European marketplace 10 or 15 years ago.
Obviously using the best technologies could increase the cost of engines by perhaps 3 or 4 times compared to those being made locally from old plant that has been sold on once it has in Western terms reached 'end of life' in product lifecycle terms.
But if that means the emeging nations cannot afford to be clean enough to advance as fast as they would like, the only solutions beyond more smog are reduced "advancement" OR increased input from the more industrialised nations.

Global warming is an intensification of the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect refers to the natural system that keeps Earth warm enough to sustain life--this is a good thing. But an abundance of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere has been collecting in the atmosphere and effectively forming an additional heat blanket around the Earth. In other words, human activities are intensifying the greenhouse effect and moving the Earth's temperature to dangerous levels...
2004 was the fourth warmest year on record. The 10 hottest years on record have all occurred since 1990.
Choose an efficient vehicle: A car that gets 20 miles per gallon will emit about 50 tons of carbon dioxide over its lifetime. A car getting 40 mpg will emit half that much. When buying your next car, pick the least-polluting, most efficient vehicle that meets your needs.
Replace your light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs. While compact fluorescents are initially more expensive than the incandescent bulbs most people use, they last 10 times as long..
Choose renewable energy. If you live in a state where you can choose your electricity supplier, pick a company that generates at least half its power from wind, solar energy and other clean sources. Even if you don't have the option to select a supplier, you may still be able to support renewable energy through an option on your electricity bill.
Recycling means much more than separating out plastic, glass and newspapers from the rest of our trash. Recycling preserves natural resources, energy and landfill space. Wiser use of products -- such as rechargeable batteries -- can also save consumers money. Also, the shopping decisions we make (buying products containing recycled materials and reduced packaging, for example) encourage companies to engage in more environmentally sensitive practices.
Have nice day to know it deeply logon to NRDC.org.

We as a nation, can't stop Global Warming. It's a world problem. If America ceased to exist, global warming would continue.
As a nation we can help delay the process by not using things that produce heat or pollution. We can junk our cars, close all of our factories, refuse to heat our houses, etc.
The reason it's getting worse is because many countries that were quite primitive a few years ago by present day standards, are now building many factories, cars, and all that we've had years ago. It's not going to go away by itself, and I'm sure that no nation will volunteer to give up all its factories and automobiles.

Hi there!
Thanks for asking a good question!
Just to reply to some of the posts which say we shouldn't worry about global warming-I really don't think that this is the right attitude to take! We might not know for sure that our actions cause global warming (although there is a lot of evidence to suggest that they do), but equally, we can't know that our actions don't have an affect and therefore we need to be cautious, and have a duty to act responsibly and to try use energy in an efficient way without wasting it.
There are all sorts of things we can do to try and reduce our energy usage, and many of them are little things that everyone can do-things like making sure you turn your appliances like tv or computer off, and not just leave them on stand-by, turn the lights off when you're not in the room, fit energy-saving light bulbs, only boil the amount of water you need in the kettle, don't leave the tap running when brushing your teeth, washing your clothes at 30 degrees instead of higher temperatures. Also, using alternative means of transport, such as walking, cycling or using public transport, instead of using a car can be helpful.
These are all small things, but they are things that everyone can do, and so if we all stick to them, they can reduce our energy consumption, which is definitely a good thing. However, we do need the shops, companies and politicians to take action too. After all, we need to take responsibility, but so do the larger organisations. For example, the council/government need to ensure that it is safe for people to cycle/walk, as otherwise the majority of people would choose to use their car.
Someone else above mentioned that we need to get other people involved in conserving energy, and this is a very good point. If we all take the matter seriously, we can become less wasteful, and potentially help stop global warming.
I just hope that those who think that are actions are of no consequence realise that they cannot "prove" this, or know it for sure (after all, science can't "prove" anything for definite-it can only really offer probabilities), and that given the risks involved in global warming, the only sensible course of action is to try to use energy responsibly and to cut down on our excessive usage. After all, the little things we can all do that I've mentioned above are not going to cause much inconvenience, and yet at the very least they will stop us being so wasteful, and could potentially help reduce global warming.
I hope that this has been helpful!

We're all being brainwashed into believing that the human race has had and is having a catastrophical effect on the earth's climate. There is impending doom just around the corner with the inevitable ice age, flooded plains, storm saturated weather patterns, solar windswept landscapes and everything else between!!!
As more scientists come out of the closet and admit that previous data was limited and innacurate because of assumptions, unreliable technology at the time and that other data should be taken into account in order to get a more meaningful conclusion that previously wasn't and some still isn't!
Eessentially, all we really have are viewpoints based on small amounts of data and extrapolated in time that are being promoted as scientific fact regardless of the lack of real agreed evidence.
The worldwide media, with its perpetual lust for sensationalism is refusing to let you hear from the scientists with the real hard evidence. But why ?.................... Theres money to be made.!!
What was once a small group of people putting the theory of global warming forward has now become thousands of people all begging for a larger slice of government and private money to support there larger wage bill, each group offering 'new' evidence to support their own group's research. This offerring of more 'sensational' evidence in order to receive funding is nothing new and of course with the power of the media and the 24/7 media channels interpolating this information as it sees fit in order to gain greater ratings what we humble people are left with is really rather further from the truth than reality.
Anyway its 10 past 4 in the morning and my computer should have been switched off hours ago to save energy!!!!!!!!! So I'll leave you with this thought :
Fact: More CO2 is absorbed by young plants than by grown-up trees. If all we are worried about is CO2 absorption, it would make more sense to cut down the rain forests and plant saplings or even leave it as grass, both of which would absorb far more CO2 than mature trees do. Can you imagine environmentalists advocating the cutting down of the rain forests.??
Some years ago a British newspaper arranged a square-off between a meteorologist, an astrologer and a woman with corns, to see who could best predict the weather. The woman with corns won.

Firstly, you can't stop global warming! It is a natural process as a result of the Earth's strange orbit around the sun. Man HAS had an effect in amplifying it, and it is this that we could reduce. As a nation there needs to be a radical cut down on industry based emissions, this is the main factor. Next, abolish public transport such as buses that run with 1 person on them that belt out diesel fumes. Renewable clean energy should be encouraged, such as wind power, solar power and especially nuclear power (just dispose of the uranium and plutonium in a reasonable manner) On the very very small scale, you could cut down on the energy you use in the home, and cycle to work, but its the bigger things that make the most difference.

1, recycle more.
2. when we by a product we should pay a little more to make sur it lasts a very long time.
3. stop throwing away perfectly good stuff just because there is a newer model.
4. stop all these cheap airfares.
5. get the trucks of the road and back onto the railways.
6. give tax relief on dual-fule cars to get more people using them.
7. improve public transport so that we can all use it.
8. encourage companies to get more of their works to work from home.
and the list goes on.

Recycling is a scam for the government to make more money.
If, as a nation took on board the legislation laid out by the european union, then our country would only contribute 2% of the worlds problems, with this issue.
It would take the whole world to follow suit...It would be too late by then. But don't worry, nothing drastic will happen in your life...
