I've heard that 4 yrs is too much of a gap and that they probably won't be close. Is that true? Plus they're opposite genders. one boy and one girl. Does that decrease the chances of them having a close relationship?

My sister and I are 6yrs apart
when we were kids we didn't get along too well..Being an older brother I did my share of picking on her.
now that we are adults my sister is one of the best friends that I have.
Although sometimes I was mean to her and called her names when we were kids..If anyone else tried picking on her...Big brother was always there to take care of the problem.

That's crazy. 4 years isn't too big of a gap for your children to be close. There can be 10 years difference and they can still be close. It all depends on the kids and their personalities and whether or not they will get along or not.

Not sure how it will work with different genders of children. All I know is that my two daughters are 4 years apart and they can barely stand eachother, like different things and I have a hard time keeping them in the same room without killing eachother.

I don't think that is too big of an age gap. My sister is my best friend and she and I are 5 1/2 years apart.

They might have a hard time while they are real young but as they get older they will get closer. My brother and I are 3 1/2 years apart and are very close.

Well, my brother and I are a little over 5 years apart. ( I am the youngest) We have a fairly good relationship. We did fight alot when we were young, but over time, we grew closer. He became very protective of me too.
I don't think you have too much of a problem here. You will find that as they get older there will be more ways for them to relate to eachother.

my kids are almost 3 1/2 years apart and are extremely close! Boy 16 (December) and Girl 13 (March).

I think it has more to do with personality more than age. I had two friends who were brother and sister and four years apart and they were very close. I am an only child, but very close with a cousin who is six years younger.

I have a boy and a girl that are 4 years apart although they fight ALOT when it comes down to anyone else missing with either of them they will fight for each other.

My husband and his sister are close and they are 9 yrs apart. My children are 4yrs apart and love each other very much.
