My beautiful fluffy lovey cat is at the vet, she's been there since yesterday. She's diabetic and her kidneys and liver are giving out. She's about 13 years old. It came on suddenly. As of a couple days ago, she was fine, and then she just stopped eating and drinking, so we took her to the vet. She's on an I/V to rehydrate her, but the prognosis is not good. I love her SO MUCH! I'm praying she'll pull through, but trying to prepare for the worst.

Thanks, BVC, you're right, she's my baby!

We agree completely, Pet Friend. We won't let her suffer, we're just going to give her another day to see if her kidneys rally, but if not, we'll have to put her down. Thanks for your kind words!

I should add that even though she's 13, I haven't been with her for 13 years. I'm her stepmom, as she belongs to my fiance, though we truly think of her as OUR cat. I have only been with her for about 3 years, so it's harder to say goodbye -- it's been too short. Thanks for all your kind words!!

Thanks to all for your kind words. We ended up having to put Punta down last night (11/16) at 5:45 p.m. central. She will always be in my heart and I will always treasure the memories of her warm fluffy love.

Trust that she's where she needs to be right now, and in capable hands.

I'll say a pray for you and your baby too.

I hope for the best for your cat and you!! I guess considering you say she is 13 years old, maybe its time to start thinking about the past 13yrs and all of the great times you have shared with her. I know its easier said then done, and I know I would be in the same condition as you. But, just a thought to make your smile a little bigger and your heart a little happier. I do hope for the best, and I hope she does turn for the better. You made the right choice by taking her to the vet, and like has been stated before, she is in good hands right now. Make sure to go and check on her, especially if the prognosis doesnt look good. That would be the best for the two of you. After 13 yrs, you are her best friend.. she might need you there just to give her that extra boost!! But, dont forget about the good times!! They may not take away the pain from this hard time, but should make things a bit easier! My thoughts are with you!

I know how you feel when this happens. I have had to euthanize a beloved cat and it was very painful though I was completely certain it was the right thing to do. Fortunately our dear companions do not have to suffer through painful and distressful terminal illnesses. The gift of the "beautiful death" is something you can give them so they can go in peace and without pain.

Maybe your gal will rally and have some more time in your loving care. I hope the best for her.

I can't imagine how hard that would be to do, not knowing what is going on with your baby. Just remember she has had a long life and I am sure a good one and she knows you love her. Know you are taking the best care of her that you can and everything is being done that can be and that should help you feel a little better.

If she doesn't make it, just remember the time you had together and be glad you have the heart to let go. She won't suffer anymore. It's the worst thing that can happen as a pet owner to have to let go of a sick pet. My prayers are with you.

Ahhwww, I'm so sorry about your kitty. I love animals too and lost our cat to a hit and run on new years day. I used to work a vet. for about 5 years as a vet. tech and I should tell you to prepare for the worst. I have seen some cats pul through but your cat's age isn't in it's favor. BUT you never know, he/she may be determined to get well. But kinda like humans, when it's their time, they know it and go to heaven. You will see your kitty again. I'm sorry I couldn't help you and wish the best for your kitty's health.

I am very sorry to hear about your cat. Diabetes is very hard on the liver and kidneys and often times they do end up in failure. Just know that you took very good care of her for 13 years. I wish you all the luck in the world but remember it is better to let them go then let them suffer.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. It's never an easy decision to make, been there myself many times, so my heart goes out to you. 13 years old is a good, long, life. I know that doesn't make it any easier but she was lucky to have such a loving, caring owner. Many cats aren't so lucky.

*hugs*
