It is only a cosmetic thing. I own a Jack Russell and I myself chose not to do it. My vet said that it is only cosmetic and that is why people do it. If there is no health reason to do it, dont. My vet also said, if the dog is over 3 days old, he recommeds not doing it at all since the bone in the tail has already grown and the ears have already developed. I'm just telling you what I was told by a vetrinarian.

8-12 weeks is the best age - some vets will do it a little older;however keep in mind the older the dog- the more the cartiledge in the ear has formed and the harder it is to get them to stand

This is not a recommended procedure unless your dog is a show dog. However if you still want it done the age varies between breeds. I would call around to see if you could find a vet that does the procedure and see at what age they prefer to do it. Be aware though that this procedure is no longer taught in most vet schools so it may be hard to even find a vet in your area

******CROPPED****,not "clipped"!!!!!
Tails are DOCKED,ears are CROPPED!
Cropping can be done any time after 3-4 mons.,but best results are before they're adult.
It's NO BIG DEAL!!
Easy & cheap to do when ALTERING!!!
PS: some of your previous answers are fools or LIARS or BOTH!

Technically, you shouldn't do it at all. It's just cosmetic. Unless you are planning on showing your dog, what does it matter? It's a pointless and painful procedure.
Usually recommended to be done around the age of 10-14 weeks old, the procedure requires full anesthesia.

Do not crop your poor animals ears, unless you just don't care about hurting your dog! And if you don't care, then sell the dog to someone less callous than you!
Cutting dogs ears & tails off is cruel, pointless & ILLEGAL in many places outside the US.
Don't do it!
