Well, unless they are going right back outside to play, I would take it off my daughter and put it in her cubby. The less things the teacher has to remember, the better... and the fewer items that get lost. If they are going outside within a short amount of time, I'd just leave it on her and expect that her teacher would take it off her when they came back in. Since I am a preschool teacher, I try to help out my child's teacher as much as possible since I know how busy they are.

It is very important when taking your child to daycare, that you say good morning to the child care worker so they know you are there. You take off your child's jacket, hang it up and get down and hug and kiss your child. Say, "Mommy has to go to work now. You have a wonderful day playing and I'll come back and get you just as soon as I finish work. I love you." Then ...and only then, should you leave. Children need a little time to "transitition" from home to daycare. Your child needs a little touch of being "settled in" and not just dumped there.

When I worked in childcare, I usually let the child take it off and walk with them to their cubby. The children need to know where their belongings go, and they feel a sense of pride when they can do things by themselves. Some times I would take it off and hand it to them and ask them if they remembered where it goes. Most of the parents from the center I worked at usually just pushed their kids in the door and run off.

My 4 year olds preschool doesn't let the parents in the classroom in the morning, they have a teacher posted inside the half-door and they admit the incoming students. I imagine it's for security purposes, no one gets lost in the shuffle.
So I take her sweat-jacket off in the hallway and stuff it in her backpack, then she is responsible for putting things away in her cubby.

In my home daycare the parents always take off the jacket unless they are really in a hurry.

Well, I take if off. I don't know if there is protocol for such a thing. But, the teacher usually has her hands full when I walk it. I suppose if your child is cold, leave it on.

They take the coat off . The reason though is they have a drive up to door and teacher gets them out of car rule. I guess if I broght him in I would do it for them .

My son takes his off himself & I hang it up and say have a good day.
Thanks to those that mentioned Mom's should take a moment w/ their child & it's important to greet the teacher. I rush off most mornings & even when I remind myself to ask the teacher a specific question, I think; she's busy.

I run a daycare and it is expected that parents come in, put diaper bags and jackets in cubby's. I also encourage my parents to tell their children bye and give a quick hug before leaving--sometimes parents think it's best to sneak out but in my experience this isn't a good idea.

I take off my toddlers jacket....either that or, let him do it. For me, that's the proper protocol.
