"Forever in your debt" means that you are very grateful for something that someone has done and do not think you can ever truly repay them for their kindness. It is not literally an actual debt of infinity.

Indebt is a word, albeit an old one and it means just what it looks like: in debt to someone.

"Forever in your debt" simply means that whatever you received from the other person is so important and valuable that nothing you could ever give them would be able to close the debt between you. I would say it is mostly used as hyperbole.

Indebt is indeed a word, but is not used very often at all, except as indebted.

If your Irish, it s from the Gaelic poem "Forever in Your Debt" by Kirk Jones and is spoken at the beginning of "The Parting Glass" when it is played in the movie "Waking Ned Devine". Here is the Gaelic and the English translation (but not Kirk Jones translation):

Guím * maith * dhóibh siúd * a * shéid * an ghaoth,
I pray/wish * good * to those * who * blew * the wind,

is * iad * uilig * a * stiúir * an bád.
and * them * all * who * steered * the boat.

Thugamar * linn * é * i gcoinne * an trá;
We brought * with us * it * against * the ebb-tide;

bead * buíoch * thar * lá * mo bháis.
I shall be * grateful * beyond * day * of my death.

As far as I know, "Forever in your debt" is used more to refer to someone who has done you a big favor and you owe them one big time. You can say that you are indebting yourself to someone when you borrow money from them, you could also say "forever indebted to you". This can refer to either monetary situations or again to just owing someone for something they have done for you. Hope that makes sense.

If someone says that to you it means that you did a favor so big and important to them, that they will forever owe you and do favors for you.

To be so grateful for something that was done for me that I'll personally owe you forever for it. It really has nothing to do with money.

it means that , for instance; you could never repay the great kindness given to you by another, therefore, you are forever in their debt.
