There are a few things you can do to help:

Make sure you have a high quality flat iron. It is worth the money to get a professional one at a salon.

Take smaller sections of hair when you straighten it.

Aveda Anti Humectant pomade is great for after you have straightened it, it will help repel moisture to keep the hair from curling back up. Do you live in a dry or humid climate? Humidity does make it a little tougher to keep it straight.

First off get a trim. If you have dead/split ends your hair will never lay perfectly straight. Second look for hair products (shampoo, conditioner, straightening balm, gel, etc) specially made to tame curly/wavy hair. Use a hair serum to help tame frizz. You really need some kind of (temporary) straightening product, there are some great ones and not so great ones. It all depends on your hair's texture, the humidity, how damaged your hair is etc. So just try a few and see what you need. Some hair supply stores will have samples that are cheap like 2 or 3 dollars so you don't have to pay a bunch and never use it. Also make sure you have a good quality straightener. The cheap ones simply don't work for really unruly hair. Also use a style glaze on your dry hair to tame the frizz and add LOTS of great shine to make your hair look really healthy.

Good Luck!

I've got the mother of thick hair!

First, I got my hairstylist to chop in to my hair to reduce the bulk (it was killing me!)

I then bought a a big fat bristle brush (a metal-bodied one) from the salon as bigger is better for wavy/curly hair (also, my hair's quite long at the moment) and beat my hair into submission with it! Actually since it's been thinned out I can hold larger sections to smoothen with the blow-dryer.

Then i put some 'Paul Yacomine' serum in it before using the straighteners. I got this pair of T3 tourmaline ionic straighteners and they work a treat! There a bit wider than my previous ones too and I think this helps in keeping my hair flat...seriously!

Go to a salon and ask them to thin your hair out -- then trim the damaged ends. Purchase a top-of-the-line ceramic straightener...some of the cheaper models don't get hot enough and metal ones can fry the ends of your hair. Also use a good deep moisturizing conditioner (it'll help weigh down the ends of your hair and pull it straight) And finally there are plenty of straightening products you apply before using the straightener...I would ask your stylist what they would suggest for your hair type...

First, use a shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for controlling your hair. After you have washed., conditioned, towel dried etc, blow dry your hair, pointing the nozzle down the hair shaft so the cuticles lie flat.

Use straightening spray. Separate your hair into three sections with clips. Then straighten your hair ( With a CERAMIC hairstraightner), starting with the first section, with the straightening irons on a slightly higher setting. Use small amounts of hair rather than large chunks.

To set your style, blowdry your hair for a minute on the cold shot setting on your blowdrier. Use non-sticky firm hold hairspray to keep in place.

hope this helps! another option is to go to a hair salon to get your hair professionally straightened and blowdried, and ask them for any advice.

take care! x

try using a heat treatment type stuff that should help with it not getting quite straight and for the ends with the iron on your hair curl the hair under slightly, that has always worked for me

its alot to do with your staightner, as my stylist says "you get what you pay for" i paid about 30 for mine and its fries my hair, but it gerts really hot. try the chi straigtner my stylist recommended it its about 100-150$ but its well worth it , also try for a small curling iron, seventeen magazine suggest ones around an inch wide instad of big ones for girls with curly hair. (oh and the chi gets really hot and is supposed 2 seal the cuticle)!!! good luc

oh and also get her to thin out the ends with a razor blade they will be whispier and easier to straignter, also try straignening smaller sections and go slow!!

You need to get your hair straightened with chemicals. You could also try having your hair thinned out.

You could get thermal reconditioning. its a permanent straightener. or you could try the Maxiglide for a non permanent fix. I have really curly hair and both work great for me.
