The Catholic Church teaches that abortion is the murder of a defenseless human being.

You shall not kill. (Ex 20:13; cf. Deut 5:17)

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. (Jer 1:5; cf. Job 10:8-12; Ps 22:10-11)

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth. (Ps 139:15)

Early Church writings: You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish. (Didache 2, 2: SCh 248, 148; cf. Ep. Barnabae 19, 5: PG 2, 777; Ad Diognetum 5, 6: PG 2, 1173; Tertullian, Apol. 9: PL 1, 319-320)

The Catholic Church is not just against abortion, it is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."

This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
- All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
- The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in fitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
- The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanazia
- Prisoners in objecting to the death penalty
- The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.

With love in Christ.

The Catholic Church condemns abortion in all circumstances. Even if the baby is from rape or incest (and only about 2% of abortions are done because of this) it does not justify the killing of an innocent human being.

Most of the time though, abortions are done because the girl is embarrassed, or can't "afford" to have a baby now.

Oh. You made a big mistake, so kill the baby!?? I mean, how messed up is our society, that we kill our own kind?
Also, the Catholic Church condemns all forms of birth control. Birth control is working against God's divine plan, and the whole purpose of sex--to bring life into the world. Any form of life abuse is condemned by the Catholic Church.
God Bless, and thanks for asking.

I"m roman Catholic and the church states that abortion is wrong unless the life of the mother is at risk. Then, AND ONLY THEN, is an abortion allowed. Thus saying, it is also a practice (or at least advicated within the church) to remain a virgin until marriage, and thus an abortion before marriage shouldn't be necessary.

It is a "Mortal Sin". Basically that means, One of The Worst sins one can willfully commit.

There is No legitimate reason for having an abortion whatsoever, the view of the Pope, who represents the entire Catholic Church.

At the time of conception when the sperm and the egg join each other this is not a zygote but a baby(That is what is believed by us catholics.) so we believe that the commadment thou shalt not murder goes directly with abortion we think it is immoral and a mortal sin which causes one to loose there soul if they do not repent.

Oh and no matter the incident (rape, incest, death to the mother without an abortion, or any other case) abortion is never allowed.

The Catholic Church forbids abortion because it kills an innocent life. I don't know how anyone in their right mind could deliberately kill a baby. It is also against the Ten Commandments: Thou shalt not kill.

The church says NO! But there are a lot of otherwise devout Catholics who bring their own interpretation to this and the church's stand on birth control (also NO).

jointly as I comprehend the element of the 1st 2 solutions, i hit upon it form of perplexing to settle for that the Catholic church might say that. some bishop consistent with threat, however the church as such? (i'm faraway from being a sympathiser of the Catholic church yet I nonetheless might prefer to work out the references to what they reported) in spite of everything there is rather a distinction between being a Christian and being area of, or agreeing with, a definite faith that asserts to have a monopoly on Christianity. Christianity is a relationship with Jesus Christ. once you have that, you hit upon a church of people of like suggestions with whom you worship. that's thrilling that folk who undermine the significance of rape are often men. men are actually not raped as often as women. a great form of Catholics have had abortions without being excommunicated. that would not ability the church approves. in spite of everything, for a rapist to no longer be excommunicated - that should mean something heavily incorrect with the church, if actual. purely, be careful what you think. information is often twisted. To get returned to whether you prefer to be a Christian from now on. If being a Christian relies upon on approving what people who declare to be christians do, then you definately might as nicely supply up being a Christian suited away. If it ability trusting in Christ on your salvation, and seeking to maintain on with Him, then save on. do no longer enable pass. in reality, it ought to be your Christian values that lead you to disapprove of the purported strikes and statements of that Brazilian bishop.
