My brother got one from Tesco for £99 called the navman. It is really really good. Have been using it ever since, always gets where he needs to be. It even got him around central london.

This is only my opinion, but having seen the hash the sat nav devices made of some of the routes they were used for when tested on Top Gear, I'd save my money and buy a nice clear map! Some WAP phones have a map service if you're really desperately lost.

I got a navman, it's the best I've found. I had a tom tom and it took me 17 miles to do a ten mile trip along a main road. Also, it doesn't know back roads very well, it took me along back roads but didn't recognise the turn offs, I followed the spoken instructions and it kept not tellling me which turns to take, i had to follow road signs when it got to a main road
