yep....15 years of your life back in your hands.... I quit 5 months & 6 days ago....And it didn't cost anything. I used dum dums (suckers) rarely...I saved myself $6,000.00 a year.

Lets look at both sides of the coin.

To smoke, you are paying what, about 3 dollars a pack? Multiply that times number of packs per day, times one week, times four to see what it costs per month.

To stop, biggest cost is for a medication, like Wellbutrin, to help you stop, say, $45.00 for a month. You will gain weight, so grocery bill will go up slightly.

Long term, the health costs associated with diseases from smoking are astronomical so, not only will you save money each month, but save in health care costs later in life.

Put the cig's down and enjoy and long life. I am an ex-smoker and not preaching, just passing on facts. I was paying about 200 bucks a month for smokes, now, I am saving that and then some from health care costs.

Very high cost if you don't stop. The news is full of stories on lung cancer and throat cancer and mouth cancer. But you never hear about what tobacco products can do to your teeth and gums. Because I was a smoker I have to go to the dentist four times a year (and I quit smoking 30 years ago). Not only do I have to spend the money and time to have my teeth cleaned four times a year, I floss and brush three times a day and I have still lost three teeth. All because I was a smoker. If you are a smoker, try very hard to quit--it's difficult but many people have quit. Tell yourself that you are stronger than that little white cancer stick.

Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn't addicted!

Here's what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it's regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don't know if they still have that deal, but it's worth a try.

No cost if you just put your cigarettes away and don't smoke anymore. My husband quit about 8 years ago by using gum and candy to keep his mouth occupied and did model building to keep his hands busy when he had free time. You best bet is to truely decide you want to do this and then do it. If you don't think you can do it alone then either buy the patches, gum or whatever at your local store to help deal with it or see your doc for a Zyban prescription. Patches are not overly expensive if you use them and if you have insurance your Zyban cost should be reasonable as it is available as a generic drug.

The high cost of smoking depends on your age. If you are over 40 you will either gain wieght dramiticly or loose it dramicticly, but over time you will some tens of thousands of dollars.

In the UK it's free on the NHS, although depending on the trust you live in and the cessation they offer you may have to pay for the cost of prescription patches after the initial 6 week cessation programme.

At least the first 6 weeks of patches are free though and even on prescription they are cheaper unless Wikos have a special deal on or you get free prescriptions.

It's a higher cost to continue smoking. You will not only have the expense of cigarettes, you will have the added expense of medical coverage deductibles, assuming you do have coverage, if not, increase that 10 times. You will have the added expense of health problems and most likely, death.
