It depends on what else you are having and how much you love mashed potatoes. For twelve members of my family, I would have to use 7 1/2 lbs because we LOVE mashed potatoes and gravy!

I'm guessing that there are going to be some children ( who don't eal a real lot) amongst the group of 13 (including you!), so 5 lbs should be plenty sufficient, however, are you having a all blow out Thanksgiving with 4 to 6 side dishes?? If yes, then 5 lbs is plenty, including leftovers.....on the other hand, if you are just having the turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes with a vegetable, then I'd go with 7 lbs.........just to be sure, and there are a myriad of uses for leftover mashed potatoes.......Potato pancakes with sour cream and applesauce, anyone???? :)

it's easier to count potatoes. Figure 2 potatoes per person (medium size or 1 large). If you want left overs use the same thing: 1 serving = 1 medium potato per person/serving.

Probaly not , Its gonna depend on how Big the Potatos are , For 12ppl & left overs , i would go with 7-8lbs.

I don't know about per pound, if they are medium sized then I usually figure about 2 each per person. Base it on that, and it'll be much easier, and then you'll have enough to have a bit left.

WELL IT REALLY DEPENDS ARE THEY POTATO LOVERS? ID DO MORE JUST IN CASE NOTHING WRONG WITH A LOT OF LEFT OVERS CAUSE YOU CAN ALWAYS MAKE A CASSEROLE WITH THE LEFTOVER POTATOES LIKE SHEPARD'S PIE OR JUST REHEAT THEM SO ID DO MORE ESPECIALLY IF THERES GONNA BE GRAVY WITH EM
