Can you still eat or do you just eat less? I heard different answers. 1 girl said she couldn't eat anything except broth and another said she ate 1 tablespoon of food and that was too much.
I think there are betters ways to lose weight but I am curious about how this works.

My mother had this done. After the sugery was complete she was on IV for a day and could only have a couple ice chips here and there. Then she began drinking 1 ounce of water at a time spread over 15 minutes. Then this switched to broth. Then protein drinks. She started eventually eating a whole serving of a protein drink but she could drionk no more than 4 ounces per 15 minutes. Then gradually moved to baby food. Then started more regualr food probably at about 4 weeks after the surgery. Could only eat about 2-3 ounces of food per meal and not allowed to drink anything during meals. 1 year late rshe as most 100 pounds eats very small meals and must still continue the protein drinks in order to meet her daily requirement. Hope this helps.

Gastric bypass surgery involves stapling off a section of your stomach, so your initial intake will be less to make you feel full. Sometimes the doctor will also tighten the opening between the esophogus and stomach - this results in your having to eat very slowly for a period of time or eating things like broth - chewing food thoroughly. The stomach will stretch after a period of time to accommodate more food, but by that time, you have lost some weight. With discipline, you can keep up the good eating habits and keep it off - you will still have to exercise reasonably to tone your body. I had a hiatal hernia repaired and experienced what the doctor described as the sensations resulting from gastric bypass surgery. I lost 10 lb. which is less than normal, but I experienced all of the eating reductions normally associated with the gastric bypass. Have you considered the lap band surgery? This is not a surgery that I would recommend unless you are grossly overweight, and then I would think about it seriously.

Gastric bypass procedure involves sealing off a large portion of your stomach. In fact, after the procedure, most of your stomach is no longer used.

A small pouch at the top of your stomach is created. A bypass is created in part of your small intestine to reduce calorie absorption. The procedure is now performed with miniature instruments and it requires a succession of five to six small incisions (less than an inch in length each).

It’s the reduction of your portion sizes and the lessened calorie absorption that leads to weight loss, not the procedure in and of itself. Thanks to your much smaller stomach, you must eat restricted portions following the procedure.

there are alot of web sites about gastric bypass check them out....personally i know alot of people who have had this done and yes it works but you know what i liked them better as a person when they were fat. when they were fat they would do anything in the world for anyone and now the don't call they won't go out for drinks anymore they won't go danceing anymore..they go just not with there friends who are still fat.. so remember that if you choose to do it..the people who cried with you when you were fat are now cring alone..

you only have a tiny part of your stomach area to use when they do this. it involves cutting and dividing your stomach. it is true that you eat VERY little. you usually have to be at LEAST 100 lbs overweight in order for a doctor to approve this. there are many complications that can arrise. a friend of mines mother had serious problems and was lucky she didnt die.

They staple your stomach to be smaller than it is...So you are forced to eat less...They tell you how much you are allowed to eat without stretching your stomach back to it's old size!!!
